Civil Engineer- Water Resources

This is a Contract position in Downers Grove, IL posted April 23, 2021.

We seek an Water Resources Engineer with at least five years of experience. The position is dynamic and requires both project management skills as well as modeling skills. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the skills which will enable them to become a strong project manager in the future.

  • Demonstrate technical ability in the design of common drainage and water resources tasks such as the design of storm sewer systems, culverts, water quality BMPs, pipe hydraulics, bridge hydraulics, scour, floodplain evaluation, and NPDES permit compliance.
  • Assist in the development of study and design documents and plans, including alternative analysis, quantity, and cost estimates.
  • Develop existing and proposed drainage plans in MicroStation.
  • Meet with and effectively communicate with project team partners.
  • Solve complex problems through critical thinking and the application of innovative solutions.
  • Represent the company in meetings with clients, public agencies, and the public.
  • Draft, coordinate and approve proposals and fee estimates.
  • Oversee and implement quality assurance and quality control procedures.

Fulfill project management responsibilities by planning, coordinating, and delivering a diverse portfolio of project work lines including but not limited to:

  • Hydraulic and Hydrologic Modeling
  • Streambank Restoration and Fluvial Erosion
  • Floodplain Mapping
  • Stormwater Master Planning
  • Storm Sewer System Design
  • Regional Stormwater Facility Design
  • Local Road and Street Design
  • Trail and Greenway Design
  • Streetscape Design

 

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Professional Engineers License preferred. Approximately five (5) years of experience working as a Civil Engineer primarily on transportation-focused projects.
  • Experience with analysis software such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWMM models, and design software such as MicroStation, Geopak, and OpenRoads.
  • Demonstrated experience with IDOT and local government projects.
  • Experience in developing complete contract documents for projects.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Good organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong work ethic and desire to learn and grow.
  • Ability to adapt to frequent shifts in direction.
