Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture
Detroit Mercy School of Architecture & Community Development (SACD) is seeking applicants interested in joining our talented and collegial faculty in a full-time tenure-track position, at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor primarily centered on our accredited Master of Architecture curriculum.
Several areas of expertise will be considered.
They include but are not limited to:
public interest design/urban design with opportunities to connect and teach in our Master of Community Development program.
the dynamics of design development in the studio, with particular emphasis in integrated and comprehensive design.
foundation-level and introductory design and visual communications education.
We expect candidates to have a forward-thinking perspective towards their expertise, and its role within our accredited curriculum.
Successful candidates must hold a master’s degree or higher in architecture and must have some previous teaching experience, with evidence of expertise as described above.
Based on the emphasis of this position, experience in professional practice will be considered favorably.
Design-build experience may also be an asset.
Licensure is desirable but is not required.
Our School of Architecture & Community Development is the only accredited architecture program based in Detroit, and is internationally known for its long history of providing a social, economic and environmental justice-driven and student-centered educational approach.
Our sources of pride include our expertise in public interest design and civic engagement.
The School is also home to the Detroit Collaborative Design Center (DCDC), a professional practice with full-time staff supported by student employees providing design, planning, and community engagement services to the non-profit community using a “teaching-hospital” model for architects.

The appointment begins August 15, 2022.
