Technical Designer l

Duluth Trading Company

This is a Contract position in Mount Horeb, WI posted September 19, 2021.

Purpose of Position:

The Technical Designer is responsible for facilitating the transition of apparel styles from design concept to a final, production-ready prototype. Collaborates with product developers and vendors to ensure consistent fit and quality.

What You’ll Do:

  • Maintain consistency of DT fit standards through use of fit form, live fittings and pattern analysis
  • Analyze and uphold garment construction standards
  • Develop and maintain clear and accurate product and measurement specifications
  • Create and update technical illustrations and construction callouts
  • Identify potential production, functional, quality and costing issues and make recommendations to ensure brand integrity
  • Track and manage workflow and workload for own product, elevate any issues to meet deadlines to leader and present solutions to issues
  • Communicate daily with suppliers
  • Analyze fabric testing information to ensure DT standards are met
  • Analyze customer return rate and determine if product improvements are needed
  • Conduct competitive analysis when required
  • Complete projects as assigned
  • Travel domestically and internationally when required

What We’re Looking For:

  • Minimum 3 years of apparel technical designer experience
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams
  • Bachelor’s degree in Apparel Design and Development, or equivalent work experience
  • Strong fit and patternmaking skills
  • Knowledge of apparel construction
  • Working knowledge of PLM systems
  • Sketching skills using Adobe Illustrator
  • Understanding of product engineering, manufacturing processes and QC systems
  • Excellent prioritization and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
