Software Designer

This position will be based out of Atlanta.

Objective 

Be an effective software developer on an established embedded system as part of multi-functional team. 

Job Responsibilities

• Review customer specifications and generate input to technical proposals and cost estimates as requested.
• Contribute to the elaboration of software specification and architecture in collaboration with the software architect; design, investigate, troubleshoot and provide recommendations in resolving problems.
• Perform development of software modules including detailed design and coding and set
  – up of the software development tool chain.
• Prepare and perform software module tests and verifications of deliverables (“Designer” tests), prior to the ones formally performed by a dedicated V&V team (depending on Safety Integrity Level and associated Product development organization).
• Ensure the software work product is under proper configuration management according to product configuration management plan.
• Support the software / software and hardware / software integration together with the hardware designer.
• Work effectively on a cross-functional basis; maintain open communication with team members including software architect, hardware designer, RAMS and Validation and Verification (V&V), technical writing and training departments throughout the software design cycle.
• Apply processes and standards consistently and contribute to continuous improvement opportunities.
• Submit design and related documentation for finished software product; participate in design reviews as necessary 
• Perform other related duties as needed
• Travel as needed

Requirements

• BSc in Computer Engineering or Computer Science or Software Engineering.
• 5-10 years of experience in the design and development of software modules / applications using C, C++, C#
• Design and development of software modules and applications using C, C++, and/or C# 
• Software development in a Linux environment.
• Software development in a Windows 7 or 10 environment (desirable)
• Multi-tasking experience.
• Real time and Embedded systems programming (desirable)
• Software Design and Architecture experience (desirable) 
• Application of software specifications (nominal and degraded modes, function, performance, RAMS, etc.)
• Web services experience (desirable)
• Experience working in an agile development environment

Skills

• Excellent verbal and written communication
• Excellent organizational and configuration management
• Ability to generate, read, and interpret user requirements
• Knowledge in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project)
• Experience in Microsoft Visual Studio (desirable)
• Experience designing and using relational database (Oracle)
• Experience in railroad transit signaling market, preferable
• Reverse engineering, desirable
• Experience with SOAP (preferable)

Working Conditions

• Work with computers in office environment.
• Work with computers at customer sites (control center / computer room environment.
• Initial deployment to customer site for 5 to 6 years.
