Position Summary
We are seeking a PCB Designer interested in developing the next generation of quantum technology.

This hands-on role will support the development of custom PCB Assemblies for a new generation of quantum sensors.

This individual will be part of the team converting cutting-edge R&D designs into commercial systems.

The Ideal candidate will be able to work on their own and take ownership of tasks while supporting overall team goals.

Requirements
What You’ll Do
Work with a cross-functional team of physicists, electronics engineers, and optical engineers to create next-generation quantum instruments.

Work with design engineers on PCB design tasks including parts creation, placement, routing, DFM checking, BOM scrubbing, and generation of documentation for production.

Communicate with PCB manufacturers to resolve problems and ensure timely completion of boards.

Work with electronics suppliers on procurement issues and proactively identify bottlenecks in parts procurement.

When necessary, work with design engineers to identify and qualify alternative parts.

Collaborate with mechanical designers and thermal engineers for integration of PCB boards into enclosures and systems.

Create connector/cabling drawings.

Take ownership of internal parts libraries and templates.

The will serve as an internal point-of-contact for engineers on Altium questions/issues.

Must be able to understand and properly apply industry standards.

For example, IPC and JEDEC.

What We’re Looking For
ASEE, BSEE, or Equivalent.

At least 2 years of experience designing PCB assemblies using Altium.

US citizenship or Permanent Residency (Green Card) required by US export control laws.

Must be comfortable working in a dynamic laboratory environment.

Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and collaborators, both written and verbal.

Required Expertise
Expert using Altium to create complex PCBAs.

Background on board layout with mixed analog, high-speed digital, and power electronics.

Must understand how to define board traces for controlled impedances (microstip, stripline, etc.).

Basic understanding of electronics and electronics topics to effectively communicate with design engineers.

Experience creating CAD parts and maintaining component libraries.

Nice-to-Have Expertise
IPC certifications in PCB Design and/or Connectors.
Designing PCBs with large, high-speed FPGAs and microcontrollers.

GHz-level RF board layout technology.

Creation of cable drawings.

Currently, this position requires more than 50% onsite work to support minimum business operations at our Pleasanton, CA facility.
