Direct Support Professional | Awake Overnights

This is a Full-time position in MN posted June 19, 2021.

Awake Overnight Direct Support Professional * Job Purpose* The Direct Support Professional provides assistance, support, and encouragement to meet the needs of people with disabilities served by HMC.

Services are provided in the individual’s homes and in the community.

This job description pertains to DSP Night Staff.

Some locations have awake night staff and some locations have asleep staff.

* Duties and Responsibilities* * Provide supervision and assistance to individuals in a genuine and respectful manner while maintaining professional boundaries.

* Assist individuals with daily living activities including meal preparation and personal hygiene assistance.

* Encourage participation in leisure activities at home and in the community and promote a healthy lifestyle.

* Support and/or provide for medical needs of individuals including medication administration and medical appointments.

* Maintain cleanliness of the home/apartment and ensure safe working and living environments.

* Complete required documentation.

* Pursue professional growth and development.

* Displays exceptional documentation skills, knowledge of systems, routines and programming.

* Attend all staff meetings and complete all required trainings.

* Maintain HIPAA Compliance in all communications, whether written or verbal, both external and internal to HMC.

* Follows all health and safety policy and procedure.

* Other duties as assigned.

* Qualifications* * Must be at least 18 years of age and have high school diploma or general education degree.

* Prior experience or training not required, but desirable.

* This position requires a valid Driver’s License and pass a driving record check conducted by our insurance carrier, unless otherwise noted.

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with individuals, support teams, and co-workers.

* Must be self-motivated and exhibit strong interpersonal communication skills, able to problem solve and respond effectively to emergency situations.

* Must have a basic knowledge of technology programs.

IE: Microsoft Office products.

Be able to use and/or be willing to learn technology for daily charting.

* Displays a positive attitude towards the job.

* Must exhibit strong advocacy skills.

* Must work with colleagues and have the ability to work independently to carry out job duties as assigned.

* Must pass MN Department of Human Services Background Study.

* Physical Requirements* * Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.

* Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.

* Must have the ability to regularly kneel, crouch; occasionally required to sit, climb and balance.

* Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds; occasionally lift or move 50 pounds.
