Job Description JOB TITLE: Material Handler JOB TYPE: Manufacturing Summary Drives forklift to lift, stack, tier, or move products, equipment, or materials by performing the following duties. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Moves levers and presses pedals to drive truck and control movement of lifting apparatus. Positions forks, lifting platform, or other lifting device under, over, or around loaded pallets, skids, boxes, products, or materials or hooks tow trucks to trailer hitch, and transports load to designated area. Unloads and stacks material by raising and lowering lifting device. Inventories materials on work floor, and supply workers with materials as needed. Identifies material, labels, and puts raw material in designated areas. Weighs materials or products and records weight on tags, labels, or production schedules. Loads or unloads materials onto or off of pallets and semi-trailers. Keeps steel scrap dumpsters in plant empty by dumping into outside scrap tub. Lubricates truck and replaces liquefied gas tank. Other duties as required. Supervisory Responsibilities This job has no supervisory responsibilities. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Work Schedule The typical work week for this position is Monday through Friday for both first and second shift and occasional Saturdays. Length of shift will vary from 8, 9, and 10 hours depending on workload. Dress Code Loose and/or baggy clothing cannot be worn in production areas. Long hair must be tied back. Steel toe shoes, safety glasses, and hearing protection must be worn at all times in production areas. JOB SUMMARY Under the direction of the Group Leader, the Material Handler assists in the daily operation of the department with primary emphasis on distribution of material and control of inventory. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES · Follow procedures for assigning inventory locations to parts, as well as receiving work orders and purchase orders. Operate hi-lo in a safe and efficient manner to move material. Complete receiving inspection prior to routing goods to individual departments or storage in proper locations. · Complete necessary procedures to pick jobs and deliver parts to specified departments. Notify specific individuals of parts shortages; late work orders or shipments; incorrect bills of material; scheduling, purchasing, or sales errors; missing prints; missing parts; etc. Report all damaged freight to Shipping Coordinator. Complete all necessary paperwork on a daily basis, including necessary computer transactions using specific forms and procedures dealing with inventory movement through department. · Maintain accurate inventory records and know how to check against them. Cycle count and troubleshoot errors. · Perform all housekeeping duties. · Follow company safety practices and procedures to provide a safe work environment for all employees. · Perform all other duties, as required, to meet customer and company quality and productivity needs. · Position requires good attention to detail and organizational skills. · Good mathematical skills. Must possess a high level of work accuracy. · Must be licensed for hi-lo. Ability to read and write legibly. · Good verbal and written communication skills. · Ability to follow, with detail, written and verbal instructions. · Ability to work well with minimum supervision. · Ability to closely follow procedures. · Ability to get along well with others.
