Basic Function:

Safely and effectively set up and operate Two-Step machines and related machinery in accordance with production requirements.  Troubleshoot problems to maintain operational efficiency and quality.  Retrieve and record related production data and communicate effectively with coworkers to maintain production flow and respond to changes in production schedule.

Essential Function and Responsibilities:

  • Set up and operate all equipment in the Two-Step Department including, but not limited to: Sidels, date coder, leak detector, Alpine bottle lift, preform dumper, lane diverter, and antistat booth.
  • Use appropriate computer systems to view production schedule in order to understand what product is running as well as any upcoming tooling changes.
  • Troubleshoot problems as they arise.  Communicate machinery and equipment problems to supervisor and/or maintenance personnel accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Assist appropriate personnel on mold changes and PM’s based on schedule.
  • Enter Master Process parameters, set cams and adjust air pressures when setting up for a new container after a tooling changeover.
  • Perform daily operator checks and hourly visual checks on product.  Accurately identify quality issues and communicate quality problems/concerns to supervisor and/or appropriate quality personnel.
  • Complete required data collection including: process sheets, process adjustment logs, daily operator checks, housekeeping sheets, partial Gaylord tickets, downtime reports and preform usage logs.
  • Retrieve and utilize container information using Customer Profiles and Quality Data.
  • Communicate with both off-going and oncoming shifts regarding issues relevant to performance.
  • Utilize the Levels Program training to increase technical and leadership skills, as well as cross training to all Sidel Machines in order to advance within the Operator II – Sidel Function.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area in accordance with Company standards.
  • Follow all GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) as documented in the policy.
  • Follow all established safety rules and guidelines as outlined in the Employee Handbook, and as stated in the various safety-related training programs.  Understand and communicate all hazards and safety issues to the appropriate personnel.  Properly use all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • May perform other assignments at the direction of supervision.

Reporting Relationship:  This position reports directly to the shift Production Supervisor.

Education/Experience:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the essential functions.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform essential functions.

Education & Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required.  Prior experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.  Previous blow-molding experience is preferred.

Interpersonal Skills:  Good written and verbal communications skills are required.  Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.  Incumbent must possess effective teamwork and interpersonal skills.

Technical Skills:  Incumbent must be capable of learning and successfully applying SAP system, CDM Apriso and Customer Profiles.  Must be able to quickly grasp operation of Two-Step machines and related equipment and possess the ability to troubleshoot problems on such equipment.  Incumbent must be capable of completing two-step levels programs within acceptable time frames.          

Other:  Incumbent must possess a high degree of attention to detail and to production flow.  Must be capable of working safely and effectively in a fast-paced, high-quality manufacturing environment.  Incumbent must have the ability to interpret and carry out instructions, including Work Instructions, Master Process Book and SOP’s.  Must be able to work a 12-hour shift schedule.  Incumbent must be willing to demonstrate schedule flexibility as business needs require as well as for coverage for vacations and other absences.

Physical:  Must be capable of standing and walking on production floor for length of production shift.  Will be required to lift/carry up to 60 lbs. occasionally.  Must occasionally squat, bend, kneel, reach, etc., in order to carry out essential functions of the position.

Level of Authority:  You have the right to hold for inspection, any product you feel does not meet customer/company specifications.
