Environmental Construction Services Manager

Terracon

Job Description.

The Manager of Environmental Construction Services will be responsible for leading, executing, and supporting a variety of construction projects such as: environmental restoration/remediation projects related to stream/floodplain restoration, stormwater management, wetlands mitigation, trail construction, erosion and sediment controls, potable water/wastewater treatment systems, piping systems, land clearing, landscaping and general excavation services.

These projects typically utilize heavy construction equipment such as backhoes, track-hoes, skid steers, rollers, dozers, and dump trucks operated by Terracon-employed operators and support staff..

The Manager will be responsible for the management and direction of these services including profit/loss management, employee supervision, project management, quality control, health and safety oversight, client relations and development and new business development, equipment negotiations, and development and review of all contracts and proposals prepared in support of the services.

The position may have administrative and technical managers to support specific functions and operations in support of service execution..

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:.

Execute the initiatives of regional remediation construction services including development of equipment safety practices/initiatives, equipment inspection programs and compliance.

Oversee and ensure consistent operations and practices of regional teams by providing training, equipment safety inspections, and monitoring/balancing workload [employees, equipment and projects].

Monitor the performance of a regional team through site visits, safety incident and near miss investigations, quality audits and metrics..

Provide leadership and direction for operational objectives within a region in support of local offices..

Collaborate the development and delivery of consistent remediation construction services across all regions..

Monitor safety, quality, and production of regional teams and provide recommendations for improvement to Division/Operating Group Management..

Assist local offices with marketing activities related to remediation construction services including pricing, planning and remedial methods..

Establish parameters in the recruitment, interview and selection process for operators, field supervisors and laborers..

Develop understanding and be aware of project-related risk.

Be familiar with what could go wrong on a project and how to protect the Company.

Be familiar with company risk policies..

Lead safety efforts for team and ensure team follows safety rules and guidelines.

Responsible for creating and modeling a safe work environment; demonstrates safety practices.

Promote pre-task planning for all projects..

Promote continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects.

Monitor quality standards and practices.

Engage APRs on projects at their onset..

Requirements:.

Bachelor’s degree in technical discipline practiced by the Firm including Engineering, Environmental Science or Geology and 8 years’ remediation construction experience.

Or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 12 years’ related experience.

Experience as an equipment operator may be substituted for education..

3-5 years’ management experience preferred..

Proficient knowledge of safety program management and implementation.

Proficient knowledge of remediation equipment operation, safety and maintenance.

Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.

CDL preferred..
