Component Assembler

Scherer Bros. Lumber Co.

This is a Contract position in Brooklyn Park, MN posted November 30, 2021.

Awesome opportunity to work as a team member at Scherer Bros. Millwork Division. Hours are 6 am to 2:30 pm with some O.T.

Monday – Friday with no evenings or weekends.

Wage range is 22.00 to 25.00 depending on experience.

POSITION SUMMARY: Performs safe production of custom moulding profiles, including machine and material setup, preparation and post-production finishing, and manufacture of Specialty Shop products. Assures product/process quality standards are successfully met.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Complete working knowledge of high speed moulders and related equipment used in the Specialty Shop

2. Setup moulders for next production job; optimized knife changes, fence, bed adjustments, run test sample, final machine adjustment

3. Pre-production material preparation: determine/pull required stock, rip and glue as needed

4. Post-production material preparation: sand, wrap, package as required

5. Operate various saws (table, compound miter, rip) and other woodshop tools

6. Perform assembly duties in various production areas of Specialty Shop (columns, flower boxes, shutters, etc.) as directed

7. Frequently communicate with Millwork Support regarding production issues

8. Ability to meet expectations of production schedule

9. Assure high-quality components are used in production process

10. Promptly notify Millwork Support of any sub-standard parts/components

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complete safety training as required
  • Increase knowledge and awareness of safety for yourself and others throughout the workplace
  • Report all safety concerns, hazards and incidents timely
  • Follow safety standards in the workspace
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Maintain housekeeping in Specialty Shop
  • Commitment to Standard Work and willingness to create a positive impact on profitability by utilizing Continuous Improvement skills.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

1. High School Diploma or equivalent

2. 1-3 yrs. manufacturing experience

(Building materials/window & door industry experience preferred)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

1. Ability to communicate effectively and clearly in English (written & verbally)

2. Ability to read and comprehend instructions, forms and other documents

3. Ability to read a tape measure, micrometer, and blueprints

4. Ability to calculate board footage

5. Safety & team-oriented

6. Basic arithmetic/analytical abilities

7. Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision

8. Ability to work well with others as needed

9. Ability to safely operate a variety of tools including power saws and air tools

10. Excellent mechanical aptitude

11. Excellent performance and attendance record

12. Ability to work extended hours on short notice as needed

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

1. Bend, stoop and squat to floor level on a regular basis

2. Stand for majority of work day/concrete flooring

3. Reach and pull over head when grasping materials

4. Lift 75 lb – 100 lbs. on a regular basis (over 100 lbs. occasionally)

5. Excellent hand, wrist, finger dexterity

ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

1. Indoor production/warehouse environment

2. Exposed to moderate temperatures

3. Exposed to mechanical equipment

4. Dusty working environment

5. Exposure to loud noise

LICENSE(S) AND/ OR CERTIFICATE(S):

1. Forklift certified preferred or the ability to obtain Forklift Certification through Scherer Bros. training

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.00 – $25.00 per hour
