Legal Administrative Associate

This is a Full-time position in Washington, DC posted September 26, 2021.

* Business Unit Description * AARP's Legal Counsel for the Elderly champions the dignity and rights of vulnerable Washington, D.C.

seniors 60+, providing free legal and social work services to those in need
– empowering, defending, protecting, and helping more than 6,000 clients each year in many areas of civil law.

* Summary * Supports the work of the Tenant Advocacy and Support Practice (TAS) attorneys.

Assists with client interviews, investigations, and document requests.

Responsible for database case management documentation of tasks and updates.

Provides administrative support as required.

* Responsibilities * 1.

Under the guidance of the tenant housing attorney(s) performing such tasks as: working with clients to resolve legal problems; drafting client letters and other documents; limited legal research; assisting with client interviews; placing calls to local government agencies and other third parties on behalf of LCE clients, prepping and organizing materials for outreach presentations.

Performs investigative work, such as gathering evidence, searching records and documents, and/or contacting potential clients and witnesses to gather information.

Provides other litigation support, such as filing court documents, copying court files, assisting with maintaining document production, and tracking court deadlines.

4.

Responsible for maintaining case management database documentation tasks such as: case reporting, case notes, case closures, grant reporting, and timekeeping.

5.

Responsible for general administrative functions for the Tenant Advocacy and Support Practice.

* Requirements * Completion of a Bachelor's degree or an Associate degree, paralegal training, or certificate and a minimum of two years' experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience related to the duties of the position.

Fluent Spanish speaking and writing skills highly preferred.
