Job Description:
Under general supervision of a Disability Determination Bureau (DDB) Supervisor, this position provides bilingual support and customer service for disability applicants and DDB staff by answering incoming calls and making outgoing calls in English and Spanish.
This position translates written medical documents and forms from Spanish to English as well as verbal communication on incoming and outgoing phone calls and voicemail messages.
Information is documented electronically in English.
This position greets and directs in-person visitors to the Bureau, sorts incoming documents, scans documents into electronic claims and files or returns records to the sender.
This position also provides clerical support for the Operations Section and Unit Supervisor.
Duties
Answer Spanish and English phone calls from individuals requesting information and provide information about pending disability claims, accurately documenting calls with electronic notes in English.
Translate written medical documentation for disability from Spanish to English.
Translate written application forms and other information related to disability applications from Spanish to English.
Obtain and document treatment information through phone contact with claimants, collateral contacts, medical providers and other professional and third party contacts.
Open, image and electronically receipt incoming mail.
Research unsolicited mail by searching computer systems and image or distribute accordingly.
Provide reception customer service and document visitors and deliveries to the Bureau.
Assist with other administrative tasks as needed.
Skills
Ability to understand, apply and to adapt to policy, and procedural changes.
Ability to independently interpret and translate Spanish phone calls to English and document phone calls accurately and electronically in English.
Ability to translate written documentation from Spanish to English in a timely, accurate manner.
Ability to problem solve independently and work effectively as a team member.
Possesses computer aptitude with Windows programs Word and Excel.
Detail oriented and accurate entering electronic data and in scanning cases and documents.
Able to learn quickly and apply knowledge to perform technical tasks.
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Spanish, particularly over the phone.
Basic knowledge of information gathering and interviewing techniques.
Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality with sensitive information.
Able to lift and carry at least 10 lbs.
Knowledge of basic medical terminology in English and Spanish is preferred and the ability to learn technical medical terminology will be essential for accurate translation.
Working knowledge of computer files, images, and scanning is preferred.
Training is provided on proprietary DDB and SSA software.
