Job Summary.
Responsible for directing, planning, organizing, and controlling all the activities that occur within the Pharmaceutical Care Department.
Ensures compliance with patient care quality assurance standards; assures the directives of HFAP, IDOH, State Pharmacy Board, DEA and other regulatory agencies are met.
Ensures that all clinical functions necessary for meeting the pharmaceutical needs of patients are provided in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
Directs and controls the purchase and inventory maintenance of all pharmaceuticals and related substances.
Directs departmental planning, revenue analysis, budgeting, patient and employee education, and human resource management activities..
Manages and directs activities of the hospital pharmacy department, including, but not limited to, physical appearance of department, appropriate staffing levels, management of pharmacy staff, accuracy of dispensing systems, schedule II drug control, accuracy of billing systems, quality of drug manufacturing and compounding, nursing in-services, clinical programs, inventory management programs..
Implements and monitors compliance with hospital and department policies and procedures, and state, federal and applicable accrediting body regulatory standards..
Develops, organizes, and conducts orientation program covering proper pharmacy procedures and corporate philosophy for all new employees..
Maintains a system of staff development and evaluation to ensure compliance with regulatory issues and to promote optimal patient care..
Maintains system of financial and inventory control according to hospital standards, including preparation of annual departmental budget, equipment, and space projections..
Directs departmental participation in various hospital committees to ensure appropriate representation (including, but not limited to, Infection Control Committee, Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, Safety Committee)..
Consults with various health care professionals to provide information and guidance concerning drugs and their appropriate use to promote safe and effective drug therapy..
Ensures drugs are available to patients when needed to avoid delays in therapy and promote positive patient outcomes..
Develops, organizes, and conducts ongoing public relations program with nursing and medical staffs to build goodwill toward the department..
Ensures hospital strategic goals are understood and priorities developed to meet them..
Participates in departmental and hospital quality improvement activities to promote quality in the medication use process..
May evaluate drug orders for appropriateness with regard to patient condition, organ function, disease state, and concomitant therapies to promote optimal patient outcomes..
May process physician orders including, but not limited to; order entry into dispensing computer system, appropriate product selection, compounding, labeling, and repackaging with completion of appropriate records; delegating product preparation activities to pharmacy technicians when appropriate, within legal limits and procedures..
Implementation and oversite of a Retail Pharmacy..
Oversite and maintenance of 340B Pharmacy Program..
Graduate of a School of Pharmacy accredited by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education with a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy..
Must be eligible for licensure as a pharmacist in the State of Indiana and maintain such licensure in good standing..
5 years’ experience in health care with 3 years pharmacy management experience..
Preferred Job Requirements.
Doctorate in Pharmacy degree from an accredited university or college..
8 years’ healthcare pharmacy management experience..
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities.
A professional level of knowledge of policies, governmental regulations, and business practices pertinent to a Pharmacy Department, Retail Pharmacy and 340B Pharmacy Management Program..
Excellent communication skills to effectively and tactfully communicate with patients and their families and guests, co-workers, managers, Hospital Administration and Leadership, providers, consultants, business associates and regulatory agencies presenting a professional image as a representative of Marion General Hospital..
Interpersonal skills necessary in order to carry out duties in a professional manner..
Ability to problem solve, multi-task in a fast-paced setting and work well in a team environment..
Ability to negotiate effective working relationships and develop positive resolution to conflict..
Highly developed computer skills to include proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and proficiently perform computer applications related to department operations and job function..
Strong organizational, financial, leadership and administrative skills to manage multiple issues simultaneously combined with ability to effectively prioritize..
Ability to effectively perform job functions under periods of extreme stress, meeting deadlines and producing positive outcomes..
