Staff Accountant

Barenbrug USA

This is a Contract position in Tangent, OR posted January 17, 2022.

Barenbrug USA has an opening for a Staff Accountant to join our Finance team in Tangent, Oregon. Applicant must have a minimum 5years experience in an accounting position and a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting.

The Staff Accountant is a mid-level accounting professional who works closely with the Assistant Controller in managing the Finance division of Barenbrug USA. This includes ledger oversight, staff supervision, and following/enforcing internal controls and procedures. The ideal candidate for this position has the passion to excel, is self-directed and able to work as part of a team and has a positive attitude.

Essential Functions

1. Supervises the activities of the disbursement department. This includes but is not limited to ensuring the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, purchase orders, petty cash, core employee expense reports, and cash control.

2. Supervises activities of the accounts receivable department. This includes but not limited to ensuring the accurate and timely management of all accounts receivable aging, reviewing A/R invoice completeness/accuracy, reviewing cash receipts application, and initial new customer applications.

3. Manages closing entries and reconcilements and assists in the review process of other entries and accounts.

4. Assists in activities for accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports including, but not limited to, internal and external monthly financial statements and annual audits and annual budgets.

5. Support year-end audit.

6. Oversee certain regulatory reporting such as Oregon’s Corporate Activities Tax and federal surveys.

7. Works with the VP of Finance as assigned with accurate and timely work to facilitate the financial needs of the company.

8. Works closely with other departments within Barenbrug to meet the financial needs of the department and the company.

9. Run cost analysis to correct cost on the usage of inventory.

10. Supervision of financial transactions.

11. Performs other job-related duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.

Required Skills/Abilities:

1. Knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.

2. Excellent time management skills.

3. Proficient with accounting software.

4. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

6. High degree of confidentiality and ethical conduct.

7. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.

Required Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting
  • 5 years’ experience in an accounting position which includes A/R, A/P, auditing, cash management/banking
  • 3 years’ experience in a supervisory role
  • OR any satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • 2 years’ experience with Microsoft Excel and other Office products

Preferred Education and Experience

Experience with an ERP system

  • Experience with Visual Foxpro programming

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has supervisory responsibility over the accounts payable and accounts receivable staff.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. though work hours have some flexibility.

Travel

Little or no travel is expected for this position.
