Staff Accountant

Position Summary:
The Staff Accountant position supports the business’s general accounting activities and is responsible for managing the company’s payroll process. Must have Government contract accounting experience. Must have knowledge of: Procurement Integrated Enterprise Environment (PIEE) and other government payment systems; Defense Contractor Audit Agency (DCAA) rules. Knowledge of the UNANET and Paycor systems are strongly desired.
Position Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
General Accounting
- Prepares and submits invoices, handles Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions.
- Reconciles account activity and statements.
- Maintains Time and Expense system to ensure proper addition/removal of employees and subcontractors and validates project workforce set-up and restricted rights.
- Monitors time entries to ensure compliance with DCAA time entry standards.
- Prepares audit schedules and assists/coordinates audit of accounting statements/reports.
- Prepares reports to support DCAA compliance and Company financial reviews.
- Keeps abreast with company policies and tax legislation that impact remuneration.
- Manages State and Federal Tax Accounts.
Payroll
- Responsible for the preparation and processing of the semi-monthly payroll for 350 plus employees using Unanet and Paycor.
- Prepares, analyzes, and implements payroll transactions in a timely manner such as payments of hours worked, personal time off, employee benefits, and application of benefit deductions.
- Monitors federal, state, and local taxes, Social Security contributions, employee benefit contributions and deductions, garnishments, and other deductions to ensure accuracy of individual pay.
- Prepares and analyzes periodic payroll reports, payroll schedules, and payroll-related journal entries in a timely manner using established policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Responsible for coordinating with the payroll service provider and Human Resources on issues affecting company payroll.
Minimum Required Education, Skills, Experience, and Attributes:
- Bachelor’s degree in an accounting discipline and 5+ years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with government contracting accounting standards, processes, and procedures.
- Experience working with or as a federal prime or sub-contractor.
- Knowledge of Defense Contractor Audit Agency (DCAA) requirements.
- Knowledge of federal and state laws relating to payroll.
- Intermediate to advanced computer literacy and proficiency in using MS office programs, accounting and HR information systems.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise extreme discretion.
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills. Must possess a high degree of interpersonal relationship skills and can work and relate well with co-employees and managers.
- Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent problem solving/judgment skills, with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organizational skills, and the ability to work independently and under pressure.
- Ability to and prioritize multiple tasks and meet all deadlines.
- Strong ethics and a high level of personal and professional integrity.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
- Experience with Paycor Performing Payroll.
- Experience with Unanet.
Other (Supervisory Responsibilities, Schedule, Travel):
- There are no supervisory responsibilities for this position.
- May require occasional local, regional, and national travel to attend meetings and other company-related events at Epsilon headquarters or other Epsilon offices.
