Staff Accountant

Part of Dover Corporation’s Engineered Systems segment, Vehicle Service Group (VSG) is a strong, diverse and dynamic global leader in the vehicle service industry.

VSG comprises 13 major vehicle lifting, wheel service, diagnostic and collision repair brands: Rotary Lift®, Chief®, Forward®, Direct-Lift®, Ravaglioli, Hanmecson®, Revolution®, Elektron, Blitz, Nogra, Butler, Space and Sirio.
POSITION TITLE: Staff Accountant
Summary:
This position will work with business and functional leaders to continually improve operational reporting and support better decision-making, accountability, and efficiency.

Financial analysis is a key requirement that will require a high degree of judgment and a technical thought process.

Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles is required to assess the accuracy and integrity of transactions affecting the general ledger.

Tasks will include preparation of journal entries and analysis of transactions, monthly balance sheet account reconciliations, compliance with SOX, and assistance with audits.

The position will apply technical accounting expertise to gather data and provide analysis and research.

The role will include both transactional and analytical assignments including managing various ledger balances and recording of accruals.

There will be team projects and interfacing with outside business partners.
Responsibilities:
Percentage of Time
Maintain the sales tax tables in our ERP system and prepare the monthly file for our outside sales tax return processor.

Oversee discrepancy resolution with State tax entities.

Participate in the monthly closing including closing journal entries and sub-ledger reconciliations done timely and accurately and in accordance to GAAP.

This includes variance analysis and interpretation of financial results for specific accounts.

Coordinate and communicate financial results up and down the organization.

Prepare and distribute various standard month-end reports.

Take an active role in communicating business results for the assigned accounts and be willing to take on ad hoc analytical projects to improve business performance.

This includes the preparation and distribution of the transactional database.

Liaise with the company’s lease accounting department to maintain our active leases within the system and prepare the month-end lease entry.

Submit data to the parent company risk department for insurance coverages.

Act as back up to the freight payables process, including recording of accruals and processing weekly freight payments, understanding the expenses, and working with the logistics team for ad-hoc reporting.

Perform general accounting duties of various accounts, including daily invoicing, pre-paids, sales tax accounts, company credit card accounts, miscellaneous rebates, royalties, and discretionary month-end accruals.

Take ownership of assigned accounts and identify issues and report to management any concerns that could affect the integrity of the financial statements.

Prepare Balance Sheet reconciliations.

Requirements:
Degree in Accounting or Finance
2+ years working in an accounting position
Manufacturing accounting experience
Proficiency in Excel spreadsheets and Windows is required
Strong attention to detail with business acumen
Excellent problem-solving skills
Strong communication skills
Self-starter and proactive
Ability to work under minimal supervision and use own initiatives
Preferred:
Accounting experience in a US publicly-traded company
SOX exposure
Knowledge of state sales taxes
ERP Experience (AS400, Oracle, etc.)
