Symetra’s Corporate Finance has a wonderful opportunity available for a Senior Financial Reporting Analyst!

About the role
The Senior Financial Reporting Analyst is a key member of Symetras Financial Operations department.

The SFRA is a key participant in the companys operating expense close and reporting cycle.

The SFRA oversees the monthly operating close process, performs cost allocations and publish expense reports to management and business leaders.

This position is responsible for accounting, recording and reporting for our operating/finance leases, fixed assets and prepaid expense.

Additionally, This SFRA is responsible for accounting, recording and reporting for the companys software capitalization activities.

This SFRA is the primary finance liaison related to software capitalization and works closely with IT and business areas to ensure proper reporting and recording of these capitalizable transactions on the financial statements.
The SFRA also performs technical accounting research and documentation, performs and/or reviews analysis on company expense results for both internal and external parties, and participates in projects within the finance department as needed.

This may include reviewing and approving the work of other staff members to ensuring proper accounting treatment and adherence to internal controls.

The SFRA has a strong understanding of the fundamentals of accounting and reporting requirements, with an ability and interest to take on complex tasks.

Your responsibilities

Oversee monthly expense close and participate in monthly cost allocations, including the preparation & review of GAAP / STAT reporting for operating expenses, fixed assets, prepaid expenses, and leases Performs technical accounting research and documentation in GAAP & STAT Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and all assigned tasks in an accurate and timely manner Accounting for activity impacting leases, software capitalization, fixed assets and prepaid assets Preparation of schedules for external auditors Prepare, analyze and review internal requests from our internal customers, including division accounting and other finance departments Support other functions and responsibilities of the department.

Other ad-hoc duties and responsibilities

Your education, skills and experience
BA/BS in Accounting or Finance Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience CPA or CMA preferred, but not required Comfortable with researching and documenting accounting issues in both GAAP & STAT Strong computer skills, especially Excel, Access and Word Solid understanding of GAAP (and/or Statutory) accounting guidance Familiarity with general ledger accounting systems (Lawson/Hyperion) a plus Experience in the financial services industry is preferred Highly motivated individual, with a strong desire to exceed expectations, looking for challenging and fast paced work environment Good decision making, organization, and problem-solving skills.

Able to perform assignments independently, provide subject matter expertise to other staff Ability to interact effectively with different personality styles and build relationships Ability to be innovative in resolving issues and improving processes Excellent communication and presentation skills Goal oriented with a track record of driving through to completion Ability to work a flexible schedule as need arises Critical attention to detail
