The Denver International Airport Culture and Strategy division is currently seeking an experienced Senior Director of Equity & Inclusion to join their team.

The Senior Director of Equity & Inclusion serves as a primary driver of DEN’s strategic efforts through team workplan design, implementation, and evaluation processes.

A successful candidate is responsible for a wide range of job responsibilities that span shaping, executing, and monitoring a strategic vision for our equity, diversity, and inclusion priorities.

The Senior Director of Equity & Inclusion serves as a primary driver of DEN’s strategic efforts through team workplan design, implementation, and evaluation processes.

Core job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Establishes an equity platform that ensures DEN process, policies, and practices use equity principles in all of our efforts and designs innovative initiatives to deepen the impact to our community.
  • Incorporates definitions of equity consistent with DEN’s focus on access to opportunity.
  • Directly engages underserved communities that are potentially impacted by DEN policies, programs, projects, or services; and addresses potential problems and actively and responsibly throughout our efforts.
  • Leads intra-agency coordination in support of, and between key equity initiatives; equity platform elements, and identifies strategic plan actions necessary to build a movement for racial equity in the agency as well as across the aviation sectors.
  • Builds equity-based education for staff and stakeholders through research, trainings, and peer industry collaborations.
  • Serves as the point person and liaison with stakeholders regarding equity issues.
  • Directly supervises and supports Equity & Engagement Administrator, ADA/Title VI Administrator, and Future Workforce Development Administrator in the delivery of trainings and other direct-service team functions.
  • Works alongside a team of three professional level staff to design, implement, monitor, and evaluate multi-year work plans that include data-driven best practices at the enterprise level.
  • Provide vision and direction to the Equity & Inclusion team serving as a supportive technical advisor, coach, and mentor.
  • Directs supervisory support in specialized resource development and in functional areas by resolving complex and technical needs, module training, designing workplans and processes to guide the on-going operations of equity and inclusion functions.
  • Serves in a lead role and active member of the DEN Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) team to manage and refine DEN Equity plan with EDI team and equity stakeholders, including, but not limited to wellness, continuous improvement, sustainability, and customer service; this includes operating in a departmental liaison role with city departmental EDI team leads.
  • Build strong trustworthy working relationships with partners such as the executive and senior leadership team, staff at all levels of the organization, and a wide range of stakeholders.
  • In partnership with senior leaders, directly engages with employees and the community to identify opportunities to grow impact within the organization and address challenges actively and responsibly throughout every effort.
  • Creates and maintains a network of internal and external cohesive and strategic partnerships for equity and inclusion work to develop and sustain impacts at all levels of the organization.
  • Align the performance-based strategic work plan goals, including data, performance measurements, and provide updates based on monthly performance management progress checkpoints.
  • Manages the Equity and Inclusion team budget and all associated fiscal responsibility functions to include contract oversight.

About You

We are looking for candidates who are skilled in listening effectively, seeking, and accepting feedback, and recognizing the importance of stretching oneself, learning and growing.

We are also looking for individuals with strong management experience with the ability to take responsibility for actions, projects, and people, make quick clear decisions which may include tough choices, after considering risk.

In addition, we are looking for candidates for some or all the following skills and experience:

  • Knowledge of equity, diversity, and inclusion core principles focused on marginalized communities.
  • Meaningfully engage a wide variety of stakeholders in challenging dialogue and critical self-reflection around racial identity, implicit bias, systemic racism, structural inequities, etc.
  • Experience supervising and managing a team, including motivating and empowering employees.
  • Facilitate diverse groups of stakeholders to gather information and engage in programs/initiatives with the ability to absorb and synthesize information quickly and make strategic facilitation adjustments in the moment.
  • Organizational development analysis and demonstrated application.
  • Analytical and strategic thinking skills, particularly in innovative program design and management.
  • A proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships and function in various roles across large and diverse teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to present to and learn from diverse audiences using data to tell a story.
  • Prioritize and manage work to meet deadlines.
  • Resolve complex problems, identify, and eliminate barriers, contribute creative solutions, and leverage support when needed to deliver exceptional results on time.

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or a related field based on a specific position(s).
  • Experience: Five (5) years of experience at the type and level of functional or operational senior-level management, particularly working in the area of racial justice with a focus on the advancement of organizational cultures that promote equity, diversity, and inclusion principles.
  • Equivalency: Two (2) years of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post high school education.

    Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.

FBI Background Check: FBI criminal background check is required for all positions at Denver International Airport (DEN).

Employees are also required to report any felony convictions and/or moving violations to maintain this clearance and be eligible for continued employment.

By position, a pre-employment physical/drug test may be required.

Snow / Emergency Duties: Denver International Airport is a 24/7/365 team operation.

If weather conditions warrant or an emergency crisis occurs, all DEN employees can be required to work extended hours and/or shifts.
