Komen is hiring one candidate that can reside anywhere within the U.S.

for this remote role.

The role of the Sr.

Director, Health Equity Initiatives is to develop, implement, facilitate and integrate our collective racial and health equity strategic initiatives and lead the work across a matrixed and distributed structure to deliver impactful and meaningful change.

This role will serve as an advisor, bridge builder, strategic leader and partner, enabling leaders and staff across the organization to identify and execute initiatives to effect lasting change and apply a racial and health equity lens to every aspect of the organization.

The individual will be a spokesperson and serve as a champion of our racial and health equity work internally and externally, ensuring the organization executes on its mission to address the public health crisis of systemic racism and breast health inequities.

The primary focus will be on reaching and serving the Black communities, while also addressing the needs of other communities of color, the Spanish-speaking populations, those living in rural areas and medical deserts, and others who are underserved.

This is a highly collaborative and public-facing role requiring excellent relationship management, critical and systems thinking, consultation, communication, and leadership skills.

At its core, the position assembles and leads cross-functional teams against discrete and outcomes-oriented efforts, translating strategy into execution and delivery.

The Sr.

Director, Health Equity Initiatives will be recognized as an expert when it comes to understanding the work of Komen, takes an organization-wide perspective when solving complex problems, and provides technical expertise to inform priority setting.

Key Responsibilities: Work closely with the SVP, Mission and Komen senior leadership team to develop the strategic vision, goals, and plans to achieve the greatest impact in reducing disparities in breast cancer outcomes across population groups, with a specific focus on the Black community.

Assess the current status of racial and health equity work that is occurring across the organization.

Partner with the Evaluation team to collect complex data points to drive strategy, evaluate effectiveness, identify gaps, integrate racial and health equity initiatives and programs across the organization, and report impact to community members and funders.

Work within a highly matrixed staff team, providing overall direction, coordination and implementation of initiatives across the organization, and work closely with the research, education, patient services, and public policy teams.

Serve as a subject matter expert and spokesperson for breast cancer disparities and the approaches that could achieve health equity, providing guidance and thought leadership internally and externally to partners, donors, the media, and in local and national forums.

Identify opportunities to share and exchange learning with partner organizations, staff, leadership, and the public at large.

Identify and manage strategic external cross-sector alliances in public health, setting and managing measurable outcomes.

Identifies community stakeholders and leaders for inclusion within the initiative.

Establish and maintain strong working relationships with external stakeholders including in health care, public health organizations, non-profits, and government agencies with which we share mutual goals.

Encourages a high level of awareness and builds buy-in for health equity work among all staff, community members, and affiliates.

Work with Komen’s fundraising team to assure ongoing funding for these special initiatives and sustainability.

Ensure disciplined budget management, promoting a results-oriented culture that values collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning and improvement.

Requirements: Supervises the work of others, including planning, assigning, scheduling and reviewing work, ensuring quality standards.

Is responsible for hiring, training and developing, terminating decisions.

Creates the experiences and beliefs for team members to deliver the desired results.

Minimum of 10 – 15 years work experience Master’s Degree: Public Health Preferred experience includes: Doctoral degree and direct experience leading strategy, program development, and implementation of initiatives designed to achieve health equity in underserved communities.

Management experience leading a geographically diffuse team of public health professionals and administrative staff.

Direct experience serving the Black communities.

Breast cancer experience, including tenure at Susan G.

Komen or another breast cancer patient advocacy organization/non-profit a plus.

In addition to the qualifications above the successful candidate should have: (Describe any specific licenses, certifications, languages, skills, etc.

A high degree of transparency, strong communication ability, flexibility, diplomacy, and the ability to forge innovative collaborations both internally and externally.

Ability to have candid conversations – identify and raise issues about equity, the ability to lean into discomfort, and have cross-cultural resolution conflict skills/ Strategic planning, well-developed analytical skills, and a commitment to data-informed decision-making.

Successful leadership, staff management and administrative experience in a complex organization.

Deep understanding of root causes and social determinants of health and other forms of equity with the capacity to bring resolution.

Experience setting programmatic vision and knowledge of theories of change for programs addressing health disparities.

An established network of national strategic alliances/contacts to support the delivery of initiatives and related resources to increase awareness, reach, and impact.

Ability to build authentic relationships and trust, particularly in communities with lived experience of poverty and injustice.

Experience in partnering with philanthropic professionals to fund initiatives by developing proposals and/or decks and presentations for current and new prospective major donors, corporate, foundation, and/or government funders, and other executive audiences.

Experience collaborating with data science/evaluation teams to establish measurable goals, objectives, and metrics for assessing, reporting, and improving impact.

Extensive project management skills, including budgeting, timelines, developing execution strategies and the ability to relay project needs to others.

Leadership and problem-solving skills that bring individuals together with clear direction and expectations, along with realistic goals and timelines.

A positive and flexible team player, who can communicate and collaborate effectively with colleagues and allies within a collegial, yet demanding, work environment.

Excellent public speaking and presentation skills, with press, media, and funder communications experience.

High level of Microsoft Office skills and knowledge of digital and social media for social change.

Ability to travel 20% to 25% once regular traveling resumes.
