Senior Director Finance- Corporate Financial Planning and Analysis

Our location in Lake Bluff, Illinois, currently has an opportunity for a Senior Director Finance – Corporate Financial Planning and Analysis to join our Finance team supporting Abbott’s Corporate Functions.

The Senior Director Finance role in Corporate FP&A supports our Corporate Functions include Business and Technology Solutions, Corporate Engineering, Global Procurement, Corporate Legal and OEC, Corporate Financial Services and the Corporate Staff as well as Enterprise-wide strategic initiatives.

The position will partner with business leaders to advise and guide financial performance and achieve business goals.

The position has seven direct reports and a team of 40 finance professionals.

Main Responsibilities Include:

  • The Senior Finance Manager is the strategic financial partner and counsel to the Corporate Functions with $2.9BN of gross departmental Spend, $1.3BN of gross Benefits Spend and over $180MM in Capital and is responsible for financial planning and analysis, financial reporting, decision-making and project support as well as internal controls.
  • Collaborates with business partners at all levels, offering exceptional external insights and in-depth knowledge of Abbott as well as the healthcare industry to drive highly accurate forecasts, analytics and rapid problem solving.

    Reviews forecasts and Actual Results with Senior Leadership, providing context and linkage of business and financial drivers as well as root causes.

  • Oversight of $1.3BN of gross Benefits Spend, including US fringe rate development.
  • Leads key strategic initiatives and activities across the Enterprise and/or across multiple businesses, obtaining alignment and driving value for Abbott.

    Includes Board level and Suite level RCE’s (Requests for Capital Expenditures).

  • Oversees forecasting and tracking of Capital, including prioritization and business case development.

    Individually spearheads strategically significant and/or sensitive RCE’s.

  • Provides M&A support, including deal model execution, restructurings and functional dis-synergies and integrations.
  • In conjunction with Corporate Financial Services (CFS) ensures compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) as well as Abbott’s financial policies, including CFMs.

    Ensures Sarbanes-Oxley requirements are met.

    Champions robust internal controls, working closely with internal and external audit. 

  • Initiates and drives process improvements and standardization across the Corporate functions as well as the Enterprise when applicable.
  • Acts in a Finance leadership capacity for a variety of Councils, Project/Program Governance and other strategic settings, offering insightful advice and counsel to the business.
  • Sets the mission, vision and strategic imperatives for the team of 40 finance professionals.

    Responsible for building the talent pipeline as well as professional growth and development.

    Highly engaged in Abbott Finance talent and training initiatives.

    Actively promotes a positive, inclusive, team environment.

  • Other ad hoc analytics and activities as assigned, including coordination of Corporate related impacts of programs, initiatives and system projects.

Education and Experience You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree with concentration in accounting or finance; CPA and/or MA, MBA preferred
  • 12-15 years of finance and/or accounting experience with demonstrated leadership and ability to lead a large team of professionals
  • Proficient with financial modeling tools including Excel, PowerPoint and other FP&A applications
  • Exceptional leadership and team building skills, ability to interact with all levels
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work on multiple priorities and execute in a fast-paced environment
