Works closely with personnel at all levels to facilitate the payroll process to ensure that employee wages are paid in compliance with all Federal and State tax regulations and that benefit deductions and contributions are accurate and timely.
Ensures that confidential employee information is properly protected.
Must be ” Hands-on” with respect to completion of assigned tasks.
Attention to detail, strong problem solving, analytical and communication skills are critical for this position.
Reports to the Payroll Director.
The positions is eligible for remote work, occasional office visits may be necessary.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesMaintains confidentiality of all payroll-related information.Responsible for the reconciliation and accuracy of one or more accounts within a complex accounting system.May perform periodic internal audits of various payroll areas and prepare materials for external or internal auditors.Prepares various accounting papers, schedules, exhibits, and summaries.Researches and advises payroll staff concerning the accounting treatment of complex tax and benefit transactions.Assists other Accounting staff with the reconciliation of payroll liability accounts as necessary.Ensures that Federal and State monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll reports are filed accurately and on time.Aids the Payroll staff in calculating accurate wages and depositing the amounts in employees’ bank accounts or issuing checks.Abides by established policies and procedures and ensures that the calculation of earnings, benefits, and pre and post-tax deductions are accurate and comply with Federal, State, and local laws, as well as employee contracts.Provides Payroll-related reports as necessary.This position has supervisor responsibilities.Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit’s success also may be assigned by the Payroll Director.QualificationsMinimum RequirementsHigh School Diploma or GED equivalent required.Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.Certified Payroll Professional designation required.Thorough knowledge and understanding of local, state and federal laws and regulations related to the payroll process.Minimum 2 years payroll tax reconciliation experience.Strong organizational and time management skills.Strong communication skills and the ability to interface effectively with all levels of management.Advanced skillset with the Microsoft Office suite of products (primarily Excel, Word and Outlook).Requires a valid Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under NMS’ vehicle insurance policy.PreferredExperience with Deltek Costpoint.Experience with ADP Smartcompliance tax filing.Working Conditions and Physical RequirementsWeather: Indoors: environmentally controlled; requires most or all work to be done insideNoise level: QuietDescription of environment: Standard office environment option to work remote in employees home.Physical requirements: Employee is required to lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.
