Job Description
SUMMARY
Reporting to the Assistant Controller of Altra, the Manager of Technical Accounting will be a key member of the corporate finance department.
This role’s primary responsibility is to provide technical accounting guidance, assist in supporting US GAAP reporting guidelines, and implement and maintain Company accounting policies and procedures.
This role will support the completion of the annual audit by working with the external auditors to facilitate the completion of quarterly reviews, and Interim and year end substantive testing procedures.
The role will work closely with key members of the corporate finance team, executive management team and Altra’s business leaders.
We are looking for a strong individual who can think critically, interface with cross functional leadership to ensure proper accounting, reporting and support to senior finance leadership.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Serve as an expert on SEC and US GAAP technical accounting issues.
Manage the implementation of new accounting standards and the preparation of technical accounting white papers.
Maintain and implement Company accounting policies and procedures.
Provide training to business units on new Company accounting policies and procedures.
Work with business units to ensure proper accounting for non-recurring transactions
Assist in external reporting process, including assessment of new accounting pronouncements and the related disclosures included in quarterly and annual reports
Review revenue contracts in accordance with ASC 606
Review the Company’s SEC disclose checklists on a quarterly and annual basis
Prepare statement of Cash Flow on a quarterly and annual basis
Manage ongoing SOX compliance requirements, including internal and external audit requests and recommendations to management for control improvements.
Work closely with Internal Audit to identify and prioritize policy development needs
Assist in preparing the annual goodwill and non-amortizing asset impairment analysis
Maintain lease accounting software and assist business units in reconciling accounts
Perform periodic site visits to business units to ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures.
Assist in M&A and divestiture projects.
Participate in personal development activities to continue strengthening core accounting and finance skills as they relate to cost accounting, manufacturing, financial reporting and analysis and general management, as well as participate in Altra Business System trainings and improvement events.
Job Requirements
Critical Competencies
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or pursuing a CPA license
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Strong organizational and project management skills
Manufacturing accounting experience a plus
Experience with a publicly traded corporation
Education and Experience Requirements
BS in Accounting, Finance, Business or a relevant field is required; MS preferred
6+ years of experience required, at least 4 years at a Big 4 accounting firm or equivalent preferred.
SEC reporting experience or helped in the preparation of SEC filings at a public company required.
Strong US GAAP and SEC technical accounting background preferred.
Manufacturing accounting experience a plus.
Experience with Tagetik and SAP or other consolidation and ERP accounting system applications.
Proficient in Excel and other Microsoft Applications.
Experience with Active Disclosure or other SEC Filing software systems.
