Manager, Fixed Assets & IT Accounting

SUMMARY

The Manager, Fixed Assets & IT Accounting is a leader within the GameStop Accounting team, with ownership over multiple critical accounting processes, including those related to fixed assets, software development, and other information technology organization costs. Working independently, Manager, Fixed Assets & IT leads a team of accountants through the monthly accounting cycle (journal entries, financial statement analysis, and reconciliations) and other special projects and serves as the primary reviewer of the team’s work product.

Demonstrated technical accounting aptitude and the ability to build and maintain processes to ensure accounting requirements are met are essential to success in this position. The manager builds impactful working relationships to support business partners and to ensure all financial transactions are timely recorded and supported.

An associate in this position proactively determines the issues important to the team’s success and establishes and communicates expectations, goals, and a system of accountability to ensure the team achieves measurable success. The manager is adept at influencing satisfactory progress against expectations and solving issues that threaten success.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*

  • Manage the day-to-day responsibilities of the accounting staff within the team
  • Serve as subject matter expert for assigned areas of accounting, including fixed assets, internal-use software development (including implementation costs of cloud computing arrangements), IT expenses and other store and corporate expenses
  • Review capital project requests and advise on the breakdown of costs between capital and expense
  • Oversee the maintenance of the fixed assets subledger, including GAAP and tax books
  • Assist in maintaining and updating fixed assets and software development accounting policies
  • Review journal entries and account reconciliations prepared by the team
  • Create and maintain procedures documentation for assigned areas of accounting
  • Perform special projects requiring accounting research and/or analysis of financial information in support of business and department initiatives
  • Support internal and external audits by efficiently maintaining records and preparing required documentation for audits
  • Coach, train, and develop accounting staff
  • Empower team members to proactively build relationships with internal stakeholders and proactively address accounting issues to meet deadlines
  • Build organizational capability through continuous improvement activities, originate action to improve existing conditions and processes, identify improvement opportunities, generate ideas and implement solutions
  • Ensure all accounting activities are completed with the highest level of control and integrity
  • Demonstrate emotional intelligence in handling potentially stressful situations, including managing competing priorities, change, tight deadlines, and conflict
  • Create a productive work environment by clearly communicating team objectives, facilitating teamwork, recognizing outstanding performance, and maintaining open lines of communication

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

Required

  • Accredited Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
  • At least 5 years of public accounting and/or general accounting experience required
  • Experience managing a team and reviewing the work others

Preferred

  • Certified Public Accountant
  • Accredited Master’s degree in Accounting or related business field
  • Public accounting experience
  • Experience with a multi-national company with retail and multi-unit operations preferred
  • Experience working within reconciliation software such as BlackLine
  • Ability to learn and optimize the use of technologies

  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
