GEICO’s corporate office in Chevy Chase, Maryland is seeking a Lead Accountant for the GAAP/Investment team within the Controllers Department.
The team is responsible for investment and GAAP reporting to Berkshire Hathaway as well as responsible for the preparation of the audited statements for GEICO’s benefit plans and philanthropic entities.
As a Lead Accountant, you will have direct responsibility for the following:
Assist with continuous improvement, automation, and internal control initiatives in support of corporate strategies
Help create, improve, and conduct detailed balance sheet account reconciliations that will support process improvement and standardization
Provide guidance and direction to a team of accountants
Preparing journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and financial statements
Assisting with the monthly investment accounting process
Researching and correcting errors identified in financial reports
Preparing and reviewing audited financial statements
Interpreting new accounting pronouncements
Candidate qualifications:
At least two years of accounting experience, preferably preparing financial statements for a large corporation.
Public accounting and experience researching accounting pronouncements are both a plus.
Background in investment accounting is preferred but not required
CPA license required
Black Belt Certification or candidate for either preferred but not required
Demonstrate proficiency in applying Lean Six Sigma and other business process improvement methodologies for analysis data collection, generation of solutions and reporting
Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Visio, VBA)
Familiarity with SQL, Python, or Alteryx is preferred
Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
Previous experience with insurance accounting preferred
Familiarity with Peoplesoft or Workday Financials general ledger applications preferred
StatementPro or Wings Annual Statement reporting software experience preferred
Salary Information
$80,000 to $100,000 commensurate with skills and experience.

This position is out of our corporate office in Chevy Chase, MD.
