GENERAL SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:Provides direct supervision of assigned trust administration staff.
Administers accounts where First Mid acts in the capacity of personal representative of an estate, trustee under will, as a court-appointed guardian of the estate, and as an agent under a custody, escrow, safekeeping, or investment management arrangement.DESCRIPTION OF PRIMARY DUTIES:Supervising the administration and sales activities of assigned trust administration staffWhere First Mid is personal representative of an estate, the assigned trust officer is responsible for the following duties:Cooperating with legal counsel as to probate the will within departmental policies and applicable state lawIdentifying, collecting, securing, and appraising all assets and preparing an inventory in a timely mannerHandling assets such as real estate and closely held corporations that must be specially managedMaintaining contact with beneficiaries concerning their interestCooperating with accountant to properly determine tax elections, file federal and state tax returns, and pay taxes in a timely mannerEnsuring that all estate liabilities are identified, proven, and satisfiedEnsuring that remaining assets are distributed propertyWhere First Mid acts as trustee, the assigned trust officer is responsible for the following duties:Administering trust in accordance with the will or trust agreement, company policies, and state lawsTrust income is collected and properly processed and distributed or reinvestedTrust principal is properly managed, invested, and distributedAll tax reports and returns are prepared and submitted in a timely mannerResponsible for performing the statutory duties of a guardian of real and personal property in accordance with the directions of the court and concerned governmental agencies and within departmental procedures and policiesResponsible for performing all duties specified in the terms of a custodial, escrow, safekeeping, or investment management agreement.
Secures and invests customer’s assets, collects and remits or reinvests income as directedResponsible for building customer satisfaction at First MidCross-selling other First Mid services with officers in charge of retail deposits, retail lending, commercial lending, and cash managementParticipating as a member of the Trust Administration CommitteeRepresenting First Mid and provide leadership in key community activities and committeesParticipating in professional associations; attend conventions, conferences, and seminarsBuilding relationships with potential referral sourcesCompleting required training associated with job functionPerforming other duties as assignedSKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:Thorough knowledge of Company’s products and servicesHigh level of analytical skills to conduct trust/investment account analysis and maintain account’s progress in consideration of market trends, interest rates, economic conditions, and other factorsHigh level of interpersonal skills to interact with customers and potential customers in a professional mannerAdequate knowledge of both internal policies and procedures and the respective state and federal laws and regulations governing departmental functions to ensure performance of individual job duties within the proper control environmentEDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Business Administration or the equivalent of ten plus years of specialized training in trust servicesCTFA designation preferredFirst Mid Bancshares, Inc.
