JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

This position will serve as the Financial Officer for Development and Alumni Relations (DD&AR), reporting to both the Corporate Controller and the Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations, and will provide leadership in management of financial and budgetary matters for DD&AR, including financial analysis and reporting and financial stewardship with accountability for sound financial management of the unit.
This position also provides support for the unit’s strategic planning efforts.
Duties will include oversight of financial practices in both Development, comprised mainly of general funds and university services budgets, and the Penn State Alumni Association (PSAA), a 501(c)3 and revenue generating operation.
Responsibilities include all general financial management, budgeting, policy and procedure interpretation, guidance and compliance, oversight of financial systems and related approvals, providing support for the merit increase process, working with unit in the development of individual budgets as well as components of the overall unit budget, and monitoring budgets to ensure planned resources are available to meet strategic objectives and coordination of internal audits and risk assessments.
This position will also serve as the liaison to central University offices in the areas of budget, payroll, risk management, purchasing and others as needed.
Candidates should demonstrate knowledge in financial and budget management, analysis and forecasting, and strategic planning.
Position will be fully accountable for the sound financial operation of Development and Alumni Relations and requires a high degree of self-direction, strong leadership skills, ability to lead and manage teams, and a strong commitment to inclusionary practices which support diversity throughout the University.
Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher plus six years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Strong written, verbal and presentation skills are required, as well as the ability to use diplomacy and advanced communication skills to persuade and influence a variety of people to achieve results.
Ability to manage complex problems crossing multiple functional areas ranging from policy/procedural issues, risk/legal matters and negotiations.
Experience with Business Intelligence tools and development of customized reports is highly desirable.
Commitment to continuous quality improvement required.
Due to the financial or fiduciary responsibilities of this position, successful completion of a credit history check will be required in addition to standard background checks.

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR).
The ASR includes crime statistics and institutional policies concerning campus security, such as those concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other matters.
