Financial Counselor

Mount Carmel Behavioral Health

This is a Full-time position in Columbus, OH posted July 31, 2021.

The Financial Counselor is a vital piece of the Business Office team at Mount Carmel Behavioral Health, an acute care inpatient setting for adult men and women who have been experiencing a wide-range of mental or behavioral health challenges.

Mount Carmel Behavioral Health, a joint partnership between Acadia Healthcare and Mount Carmel Health Systems, is an 80-bed acute treatment center located centrally in Columbus, Ohio.

The Financial Counselor will serve as a strategic partner within the Business Office in connecting, counseling, strategically work with and processing patient accounts.

Functions include, but not limited to:
Request and process bills to third party payors and patients, maximizing re-imbursement of services provided to achieve established hospital financial goals.

Review explanation of benefits to ascertain that claim processed and paid correctly.

Communicate with patients to identify and understand financial, social and and medical histories and other relevant patient information.

Assess the current financial situation of patients through the verification of patient insurance benefits; serving as the technical expert in confirming patients benefit and hospital reimbursement.

Assess and offer payment alternatives which may include prepayment for care, applying for financial assistance, etc.

Collect deductibles, pre-payments and outstanding balances following established collection procedures.

Educational/Licensure/Experience Requirements:
High school diploma, GED or equivalent required.

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field preferred.

Three (3) or more years’ of business office experience required, preferably in inpatient hospital setting or medical office.

Familiarity working with one or multiple payor sources, such as Medicare, Medicaid and Commercial insurances.
