Director of Financial Reporting

Watts Water Technologies

This is a Contract position in North Andover, MA posted July 25, 2021.

Watts is seeking a highly motivated, experienced accounting professional to join its corporate accounting team in the role of Director of Financial Reporting. The selected candidate will play an integral part in the Watts’ internal and external reporting process, and report directly to the Company’s Corporate Controller. This position will also have direct exposure to the Company’s CFO and other business leaders throughout the organization. This role will oversee the global financial consolidation, research, evaluate and document technical accounting matters as well as maintain company accounting policies, manage and review quarterly and annual financial filings with the SEC, have involvement in SOX compliance program, and drive continuous improvement across all aspects of Corporate accounting. The financial reporting manager reports into this role.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Ensure that company financial reports are prepared in compliance with policies and directives, US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements;
  • Oversee the global monthly consolidation and financial reporting;
  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting, consolidation and general ledger structure of the Company and work to streamline and standardize where possible
  • Prepare, and review disclosures for the quarterly and annual financial filings with the SEC and providing audit documentation to the external auditors and review of financial statements (e.g. cash flow statement)
  • Review SEC and GAAP checklists for quarterly/year-end close;
  • Review XBRL for filings and assist in ongoing maintenance of XBRL compliance;
  • Provide technical support to members of the Finance and Accounting team on the treatment of accounting issues in compliance with U.S. GAAP and SEC requirements;
  • Research, evaluate and document technical accounting implications of complex or non-standard transactions (e.g. acquisitions, restructuring, goodwill impairment, segment reporting, R&D classification, revenue recognition, debt modification, hedge accounting);
  • Maintain accounting policies, including updating or developing new policies to ensure consistency and compliance with GAAP and SEC requirements; Provide ongoing training of Company’s accounting policies
  • Lead the implementation of new policies and procedures or accounting standards, provide training to the organization, and present to the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors if required;
  • Manage relationship with external/internal auditors and consultants
  • Participate in SOX compliance program in relation to internal financial reporting controls, working with internal audit, external audit and the business to ensure controls are designed and operating effectively;
  • Assist in due diligence for acquisition targets, review opening balances sheets, provide accounting support post acquisition, coordinate between tax and corporate accounting on acquisition accounting, and prepare documentation for each business combination;
  • Recommend and assist in the implementation of process improvements as appropriate, to simplify, standardize and streamline external reporting;
  • Conduct balance sheet reviews at operating units;
  • Assist in special projects, such as registration statements, debt offerings, 8K filings, etc.;
  • Assist FP&A, Treasury, and Investor Relation functions with ad-hoc projects on an as needed basis

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance

MANAGEMENT:

  • Ensure company policies are followed
  • Enforce company safety policies
  • One Direct Report

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • BS Degree in Accounting; CPA required
  • Requires minimum 10-12 years of accounting experience, including a Big 4 public accounting firm and persons with a combination of public accounting and industry experience with financial consolidation/SEC reporting experience preferred
  • Solid working knowledge of US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements
  • Superior organization skills, ability to multi-task and re-arrange priorities as needed, monitor workflow in meeting critical deadline and project timetables
  • Strong work ethic and sense of personal responsibility for work outcomes
  • Excellent system and computer skills, with strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, experience with Hyperion Financial Management (HFM)
  • Requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work effectively with all levels and functions in the organization
  • Must be able to maintain a high degree of confidentiality
  • Must be flexible, organized and able to accurately work under time constraints and deadlines
  • Experience with large multi-national, manufacturing, public corporations
  • Demonstrated leadership ability
  • Self-motivated, strong attention to detail and ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Excellent problem solving, communication, interpersonal, analytical and time management skills required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of products
  • Effective writing, presentation and communication skills
