Community Alternatives Unlimited (CAU) is a private non-profit corporation incorporated by the State of Illinois.
The organization is governed by a voluntary Board of Directors and is funded by public and private contracts as well as private donations.
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: President/CEO GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of the Agency CEO, directs and coordinates all fiscal and business administration functions of the agency with an emotional openness, flexibility, and respectfulness.
POSITION SUMMARY The Director of Finance will be responsible for the oversight of all finance, accounting, and regulatory compliance.
This positions reports directly to the CEO and is responsible for setting the Agency’s financial policy and direction.
He CFO will ensure that the Agency has the systems and procedures in place to support effective program implementation, and to conduct audits.
This position is responsible for presenting all finance-related matters to the Board of Directors.
DIRECTOR OF FINANCE ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: * Under the direction of the CEO, plans, develops, and implements the agency budget to monitor progress and present operational metrics both internally and externally.* Assists the CEO in the budget negotiation process with specific funders as required and presents budget to Board of Directors.* Oversees all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.* Maintain internal controls and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs and program budgets and actual expenditures.* Oversee the preparation and approval of all financial reporting materials and metrics for funding organizations and Board of Directors; oversee preparation of monthly and annual financial statements.* Coordinate all audit and tax activities.* Oversee all financial and project/program and grants accounting; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets through the grant/fund period; collate financial reporting materials for federal, state, corporate and foundation grants.* Review all formal finance, HR and IT related procedures, processes and administration, recommending improvements to the systems in place and managing systems going forward.RESPONSIBLE FOR:* The development, implementation and maintenance of the automated accounting system and manages upgrades.* Monitoring the line item expenditure and preparation of periodic expenditure plans and revenue and expense reports for review and approval of the Board as well as the specific funders.* The necessary preparation of the Agency’s annual audit of the books of record and provides the external auditor with such records and information as needed to facilitate the audit.
This includes timely submission of the Agency’s tax returns (990 and AG 990) and Annual Corporate Filing.* Managing cash and maintaining Agency’s Investment Policy and Procedures.* After Board of Director acceptance, responsible for the management of all agency contracts.* Managing and supervising the Agency’s accounting department staff.* Responsible for collaborating and consulting with HR including but not limited to payroll and benefits.* Participating as a member of the Administrative Team that includes participation of RFP submission.* Under the directions of the CEO attends Board Meetings.* Performing other duties as assigned by the CEO as related to the agency’s mission and goals.* Compliance with the procedures stated in the Employee Guidebook.* Under the direction of the CEO, negotiating with employer benefit companies and their costs.* Managing the employer 401k Retirement Plan.* Overseeing the Agency’s IT Department and serving as liaison to outside IT vendor support.

**Please fill out this application via tablet or laptop to complete signature on last page** POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: * 7+ years of financial leadership experience, including experience in non-profit organizations.* Minimum of BA in Accounting or Finance.* CPA required.* Experience will Illinois GATA requirements highly preferred.* Social work knowledge desirable.* Solid experience in the timely completion of multiple tasks including coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, budget development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll, internal controls, regulatory compliance and reporting of government, corporate and foundation grants.* Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate key data, including presentations to senior management, board, or other outside partners.* Experience in integrating IT systems to improve productivity and accuracy.* Excellent organizational and communication skills, professionalism, and the ability to quickly adapt to change.* Ability to listen well and communicate effectively orally and in writing with various audiences.* Ability to be self-directed and to interface diplomatically with all agency staff and funding sources.* Ability to exercise discretion and trustworthiness to manage the Agency’s business.* Proficient knowledge of MS Office, Salesforce, Quickbooks, HRIS systems; comfortable with learning new software as needed to support the organization’s other financial needs.
