Director of Finance

California Assosiacion of Independent Schools

This is a Full-time position in Mayfield, KS posted November 17, 2021.

SUMMARY
The Director of Finance is responsible for the school’s financial planning and risk management.

This involves general oversight of the Finance Office and Human Resources Office, and Extended Programs (including our summer programs).

The director safeguards the resources of the school through recommendations, and the design of policies and procedures in these areas.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Responsible for preparing the annual operating budget draft and capital expenditure plan for the Finance and Audit Committee.

Directs control of the budget and drives the School’s financial planning.

Provide the Head of School, Board of Trustees, and trustee committees financial information and other reports.

Responsible for supervising Human Resources Manager. 

In collaboration with the Head of School, administer the salary administration program 

Oversee planning, organization, and management of accounting functions and activities of the Business Office.

Design and implement administrative controls for collection and expenditure of funds.

Member of the School’s Senior Leadership Team.

Work closely with the Board of Trustees.

Serve as staff liaison to the Finance and Audit Committee. 

Manage and supervise the Extended Programs (After School and Summer Programs) operations and staff.

Oversee the annual audit. 

Direct the financial aid process in conjunction with the financial aid committee.

Collaborate with the Advancement Office in the design and implementation of controls and procedures to ensure that gifts are properly recorded and recognized.

Work with an outside investment advisor to manage the school’s endowment fund portfolio within the established investment guidelines.

Oversee risk management and insurance activities of the school. 

Ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations, as well as, school policies.

Assist with special school related projects as requested. 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or similar field.

Masters degree, desired. 

Minimum 5 years of related management experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience in a non-profit or independent school preferred. 

In depth knowledge of financial, legal and risk management practices.

Ability to manage the overall school budget, work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical reference, and to develop formulas applied to practical situations. 

Excellent oral and written communication skills, including listening and feedback capabilities, as well as public speaking.

Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with a wide and diverse population, including members of the leadership team, other employees, parents, students, volunteers, visitors and representatives from other organizations.

Ability to multitask, prioritize and follow-through to effectively manage the workflow and meet deadlines in an organized manner.

Excellent organizational skills with high attention to detail, accuracy, and protocol.

Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods.

High level of discretion in maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information and issues. 

Ability to effectively manage and mentor others.

High level of commitment to providing excellent customer service with the ability to develop productive work-related partnerships with members of the leadership team.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.

Generally works in standard office conditions and climate.

Works in an environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges and deadlines.

May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.

May work evenings and weekends.
