nn nn DIRECTOR FOR DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION (DEI), Office of the Vice President for Research (VPR), to serve in a new position in support of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) on behalf of the MIT research community, the VPR departments, labs, and centers (DLCs), the postdoctoral community, and related areas.
Will advise the vice president for research, lab directors, and others in the Office of the VPR on matters related to DEI; define strategic priorities and develop and implement policies to advance the area’s commitment to DEI; collaborate on the development and implementation of programs and activities to increase diversity and inclusivity in the VPR DLCs; provide leadership in recruitment and retention efforts for underrepresented staff, postdocs, and faculty; use qualitative and quantitative data to assess and advance the achievement of goals in the VPR DEI plan; identify, implement, and communicate evidence-based best practices to ensure long-term institutional excellence through DEI; and work with Institute leadership, including the Institute Community and Equity Office (ICEO), the Office of the Provost, MIT Human Resources, and others across MIT on DEI. nn nn Job Requirementsn REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree (advanced degree preferred); at least seven years’ experience in DEI; excellent oral and written communication skills, specifically related to communicating with a variety of internal/external stakeholders about DEI; demonstrated track record of handling change management in a decentralized academic environment; extensive knowledge of DEI and cultural competency programs, training, and best practices, specifically related to higher education; and ability to work collaboratively and to handle sensitive and interpersonally-complex situations with good judgment.
