Responsibilities

The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a Director of Evaluation in our National Center office.

Location of selected candidate is flexible.

In this role, you be responsible for leading a team of evaluation analysts tasked with providing data collection, analysis, and reporting of outcomes and measures for AHA’s initiatives.

Additional responsibilities include providing state-of-the-art qualitative and quantitative analytical services across multiple sectors as well as growing and developing the AHA’s evaluation program into one of the strongest programs in the country.

This is a full time, grant funded, benefits eligible opportunity.

Current funding is through 6/2024.

Essential Job Duties

• Provide technical oversight and direction for the synthesis of evidence and information, as relevant and applicable, to inform the development, implementation, and/or monitoring of programs and initiatives that are aligned with organizational priorities.

• Serve as a liaison between the evaluation team with both internal and external partners to develop and facilitate strategic collaborations aimed at evaluating existing programs/initiatives and enhancing capabilities to evaluate and monitor cardiovascular health across populations.

• Develop and direct a coordinated program of evaluation and support strengthening of evaluation capacity.

• Present results of programs and initiatives at major scientific meetings; assist and contribute to peer-reviewed manuscript development.

• Conceptualize study analytic designs, select and refine study measures, and oversee quality control of data collection for evaluation of AHA programs and initiatives at a local, regional, and national level.

• Communicate evaluation results in a timely and effective manner to influence views not only of staff but also of Member States (delegates, parliaments, decision-makers), the broader donor community and other stakeholders.

• Ensure appropriate use of evaluation findings to promote organizational learning, by establishing effective feedback loops between various end-users within and external to the AHA.

• Coordinate and collaborate across AHA departments and business units to avoid duplication of efforts and improve programs of mutual interest.

Qualifications

• Advanced Degree
– Masters in Epidemiology, Public Health, or related area, PhD preferred.

• Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in program development, management, or administration.

• Minimum of seven (7) years of project leadership and coordination experience.

• Minimum of five (5) years of

• Experience creating data collection instruments for both quantitative (surveys/questionnaires) and qualitative (interview/focus group guides) approaches.

• Experience leading or supervising staff or a project team.

• Advanced knowledge or skills in programming and data management with knowledge of statistical research methodology/principles.

• Proficiency in programming languages such as SAS, STATA, Matlab, R, and other data analysis platforms.

• Ability to develop scientific proposals and reports for both scientific and lay audiences.

• Ability to understand scientific communication (journals, briefings, reports, statistics, etc.) ability to synthesize complex data sets into reports or communications for diverse audiences.

• Comprehensive knowledge of public, community and population health and business models.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

• Ability to work with a wide variety of stakeholders, including representatives of target populations.

• High level of organization and attention to detail; ability to summarize/interpret complex analyses, strong deductive reasoning skills and ability to maintain detailed documentation of data management and programming work.

• Must be able to travel overnight approx.

10% of the time.

Here are some of the preferred skills/experiences we are looking for

• PhD in Epidemiology or related area.

• Minimum of five (5) years of experience analyzing data resources appropriate for monitoring cardiovascular health in diverse populations.

• Advanced skills/experience with design and implementation of investigations focused on surveillance of cardiovascular disease and risk factors.

• Training/proficiency in cardiovascular disease epidemiology methods.
