ABOUT THE ROLE
The Corporate Controller will partner with the CFO to determine accounting and tax implications for material business decisions. The Corporate Controller will be responsible for overseeing the accounting operations, SOX compliance as well as managing processes and systems to achieve an effective environment of scalable financial controls, that support the rapid growth of Company.
The Corporate Controller will interact with all members of the Company’s leadership team across all of the functional areas. We are looking for an experienced Corporate Controller with public company experience from the financial services, financial technology, or specialty finance world who will be energized by the opportunity to grow a best-in-class and agile finance organization capable of delivering accurate, timely financial results, and financial reporting.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
Technical Responsibilities:
- Responsible for all aspects of accounting operations including maintaining all corporate accounting policies and procedures ensuring that Company and each legal entity is following required statutory procedures, technical accounting standards, GAAP accounting policies and compliance with SEC reporting requirements (should the company at some time consider an IPO).
- Maintain the integrity of the financial and reporting systems: Ensure the timely and accurate preparation of income, balance sheet and cash flow statements in compliance with GAAP/IFRS and local statutory filing requirements.
- Establish and maintain a library of key accounting policies, finance processes, accounting methodology, revenue and accrual recognition policies consistent with industry and accounting practices.
- Drive accounting operations, including GL, AR, AP, payroll, and inventory controls.
- Tax management: sales tax compliance, tax schedules, coordination of returns, and information.
- Monitor and enhance processes to ensure appropriate evidential support is maintained for disclosures.
- Ensure compliance and compliance education; act as lead compliance executive.
- Lead internal and external audit processes and relationships.
- Participate in 409(a) valuation process to set stock option exercise price and broadly be responsible for equity accounting and capitalization table matters in concert with legal.
- Manage insurance program for all entities.
Leadership Responsibilities:
- Build, mentor and effectively manage the controllership organization. Balance team development goals with what is required for business growth and performance. Leverage technology and people to reduce potential burn-out across the team. Automate more mundane tasks when possible and increase higher value-added activities.
- Coordinate the monthly, quarterly, global financial close process, procedures and schedule within a timely fashion.
- Continuously improve financial controls to ensure predictable operations.
- Provide board/investor and other external reporting; lead the coordination and preparation of all external reporting.
- Lead monthly end-to-end financial closing processes; optimize timely closing.
- Proactively assist business partners with accounting standards related to new transactions, products.
- Contribute to Board meeting preparation and bring insights driven contributions rather than merely the reporting of historical results. Drive variance to budget conversations that lead to better managerial decision-making and risk/return calculations.
WHAT WE LOOK FOR
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field –required.
- Master’s degree (MBA or related advanced degree) preferred, but not required. Active CA CPA license is required.
- With deep accounting skills, this individual will have a minimum of 15 years of experience with technical accounting skills in complex, global growth environments.
- At least four years of experience as Corporate Controller or Assistant Controller / Director of Accounting at a public company.
- Experience from financial services, financial technology, specialty finance and/or other industries which bring similar industry and regulatory dynamics germane to Company.
- Experience leading monthly end-to-end financial closing process; able to close the books within 15 days of quarter.
- Experience and understanding of NetSuite or comparable ERP and finance technology systems and software.
- Solid experience overseeing tax management and compliance; tax schedules, coordination of returns and information with outside firms
- Deep experience shaping accounting policies and procedures. Establishing, updating accounting policies and strong internal controls; including SOX compliance. Deep understanding of GAAP and knowledge of IFRS
- CPA and at least 4 years of experience in public accounting.
Nice to Have
- 8 -10 years in public accounting experience rising to the level of Senior Manager with direct client work with companies/industries valuable to Company.
- Chief Accounting Officer of public company in excess of $1-2Bn in valuation.
- Playbook to close the books within 5 days of quarter end (best-in-class process).
- IPO experience.
