We are looking for someone who understands and is fluent in payroll processing (production, reporting, accounting, and taxation) and nonprofit accounting concepts to join the National team as Controller reporting to the Director of Finance.

The Controller role is central to Genesys Works ability to maintain and ensure the integrity of financial transactions and administrative records to enable the organization to grow and scale to connect more Young Professionals to career success.

This position will sit within the National Finance function and be responsible for daily, weekly, and monthly accounting tasks, activities, reporting, and administration.

The Controller will make recommendations for developing and implementing accounting practices and procedures to ensure adequate internal controls and accurate and timely financial recordkeeping and reporting.

This position must meet tight deadlines and perform many accounting activities, including reconciliations and financial reporting.

While the role will reside within Genesys Works Finance team, the position requires working closely with departments across the organization to support new and ongoing organizational objectives.

In your first 3 months, you will…

• Lead and complete the month and quarterly close processes that feed the preparation of financial results to the various site Executive Directors

• Manage and oversee daily operations of the accounting department including:

– accounts payable/receivable

– cash receipts

– general ledger

– grant accounting

– assist with budgeting and cash forecasting

– revenue and expenditure variance analysis

– capital assets reconciliations

• Develop strong working relationships with Finance Team members and across the organization, quickly building trust and credibility with national and local staff

In your first 6 months, you will…

• Supervise and oversee the Payroll and AR functions to ensure tasks are completed timely and accurately and assisting with troubleshooting solutions as issues arise

• Act as back up to Payroll Administrator and AR team

• Monitor and complete quarterly AR write-offs

• Ensure documentation is up to date for all accounting functions

• Oversee and coordinate registration, compliance, and administrative requirements for all subsidiaries

By the end of the first year, you will:

• Monitor and analyze accounting data and produce financial reports or statements

• Establish and enforce proper accounting methods, policies, and principles

• Provide recommendations to improve systems and procedures and initiate corrective actions

• Assign projects to direct Finance staff to ensure compliance and accuracy

• Meet financial accounting objectives

• Work with the Director of Finance to facilitate audit prep and support external audit engagement

• Work with the Director of Finance to manage the preparation of IRS Forms 990 and 1099

To be successful in this role…

• You are a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with a minimum of 5-years experience in accounting or bookkeeping with expertise in nonprofit accounting and overseeing Payroll

• You are proficient in Microsoft Excel and are comfortable with Advanced Microsoft Excel skills like pivot tables, VLOOKUP, INDEX|MATCH, and charting

• You have experience or a high level of comforting with tools like NetSuite, Salesforce, and Adaptive Insights

• You believe that all people can reach their full potential and are passionate about helping them get there

• You are detail-oriented, and energized by solving problems and sparking solutions

• You know how to match vision with execution; you have experience thinking strategically as well as demonstrated success executing with strong attention to detail
