The Controller reports to and works closely with the Director of Financial Planning and Analysis as well as other business leaders across a fast moving & demanding beauty industry CPG company.
Primary responsibilities include the oversight of all accounting functions, supervision of the monthly accounting close process for a newly separated US company whose parent(s) are in the UK, financial reporting to management, all tax filings, annual financial audit and banking responsibilities.
This position is very “hands on” which requires a detail-oriented personality, but also the ability to see the big picture and provide analytical insight to management that can rely on to make informed decisions.
The Controller will be responsible for developing accounting processes, procedures, and internal controls for a newly independent business, as well as managing/delegating to a staff of 3 (AR, AP & Accounting Specialist).
This position will be expected to work in our Calabasas office 3 days a week.
Job Role and Responsibilities Responsible for the oversight management of the transactional accounting processes including Accounts Payable/Cash Disbursements, Accounts Receivables/Cash Receipts, Revenue, Monthly BS, Aging Schedules, Bad Debt Manage and process Payroll for 27 FTE in Paychex Ensures maintenance of complete general ledger and financial records Month end close for the entire enterprise in US GAAP (ERP – Great Plains) prepares Monthly FS and monthly reporting pack Ensures management required financial reporting, pro-forma reporting and any other required analyses are complete, accurate & timely.
Pricing and COGS system updates and maintenance Manages the company’s banking relationships, third-party platforms, intercompany entries, and insurance 13 Week rolling cash flow management and forecasting due to Wella (parent company) every Monday Oversight of the company’s annual financial audit & Sox compliance.
Responsible for ensuring accurate and timely tax compliance, including income taxes, sales tax, use and payroll taxes.
Provides leadership, direct supervision, training, and development of staff and ensures efficient and effective use of staff.
Contributes to business planning process, supporting special projects and ad hoc reporting asks from internal & external business units.
Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, CPA is a Plus.
Eight years of professional accounting/finance experience, with at least five years in a managerial role.
CPG experience with hands-on cost accounting experience is required beauty industry is a plus.
Audit & Sox compliance experience with a national accounting firm a plus Must possess working knowledge of all taxation requirements and ability to oversees outside tax support service.
Must possess excellent analytical, quantitative, project management & problem-solving skills using excel (Pivot tables, V-lookup, If statements, etc.) Working knowledge of accounting systems and the ability to identify the proper system(s) reporting.
Must be able to analyze data, draw conclusions and recommend actions using sound judgment.
