Robert Half Finance’s new Controller opening will give you the opportunity to take responsibility for an accounting and clerical department at a successful Manufacturing company.

The Controller position is a full-time opportunity in the Alma, Michigan region.

This position is for candidates who can plan and direct all accounting operational functions, handle the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluate accounting and internal control systems, and lead departmental staff.

In this role, it will be critical for you to effectively manage self and others within strict time constraints when providing client services, lead while also being a team player, generate innovative ideas, and challenge the status quo.

Key responsibilities
– Drive the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques to ensure the timely cash collection
– Assess, execute and improve policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies
– Support Finance Department initiatives, such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, with research, planning, and implementation, as required
– Handle daily cash management and produce cash-flow reports, calculating cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals
– Manage the creation of and monthly monitoring of the annual budget and forecasts
– Give executive committee and partners monthly financial reports
– Collaborate with executive team and partners to make efficient and effective firm-wide operation possible
– Direct finance department activities, such as accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll
– Perform tasks associated with month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis
– Reviews deliverables of self and team to ensure that they meet client expectations
– Respond on items beyond formal job responsibilities
Job Requirements:

– Seizes opportunities to produce results without direct supervision

– Notable analytical, quantitative and social skills

– Advanced credentials such as a Masters of Business Administration / MBA or Certified Public Accountant / CPA are preferred

– Excellent oral and written communications skills

– Solid understanding of financial statement preparation

– Proficiency in year end closings

– Budget forecasting experience preferred

– Month end closings experience

– Prior experience in a public accounting environment is highly valued

– Experience working in a dynamic and changing company environment a plus

– Excellent attention to detail

– 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred

– Demonstrated ability to build and deliver effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds

– Excellent technology, analytics and management experience required

– BA/BS or higher in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field

– Ability to prioritize work and balance multiple projects and deadlines
