POSITION: Business Manager / Controller
GENERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Full charge accounting; including daily accounts payable, member billing, general ledger, cash flow analysis, internal controls, audit, budgeting, payroll, taxes, forecasting treasury, debt management, human resources and related activities and records.
Financial
Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements
Reconcile all balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis
Assist Auditors with year-end financial statements
Work with General Manager and Finance Committee to provide trend analysis, create forecasts & budgets and make recommendations.
Collaborate with General Manager to define and produce monthly departmental reporting and improve profit and loss analysis.
Ta, licensure and permitting preparation and filing.
Membership
Maintain membership master files and data base; tracking all changes
Responsible for accuracy of member billing statements
Assist Membership Committee with monthly membership reports
Human Resources
Assist General Manager with hiring of key employees
Conduct background screening of potential employees
Maintain employee personnel files
Schedule annual reviews
Administrator of employee benefit plans
Process weekly payroll
Review quarterly and annual government filings.
Board Level
Attend monthly Finance, House, Membership Committee and Board meetings
Schedule meetings
Prepare and distribute agendas and meeting materials
Maintain meeting minutes
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS REQUIRED
Extensive knowledge of all accounting functions, preferably in a club environment.
Must be proficient in Northstar Club Management Software and Microsoft Office Software.
Experience in Joas
Club Software a plus.
Data analysis and report preparation, using key industry benchmarks and resources.
A history of proactive financial leadership and innovation with a ‘solution-minded’ approach.
Ability to exercise sound judgement with a high degree of integrity and work ethic.
Excellent service skills and a professional demeanor with demonstrated ability to maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, vendors and members.

The University Club is a vibrant and forward-thinking private club in Providence.
Founded in 1899 for ‘literary, scientific, artistic and social purposes,’ it is known for its culinary excellence, creative social calendar and active squash program.
The Club is open year-round and operates as a 501c7, board governed, with over 600 members and 40 full time and part time staff.
The University Club is undergoing significant renovations of its clubhouse and infrastructure.
The Business Manager is a member of Senior Membership and reports directly to the General Manager with indirect reporting to the Secretary and Finance Committee Chair.
This position is salaried with the expectation of 40 – 50 hours per week.
Salary is commensurate with experience.
