Our client is a multi-hundred-million-dollar manufacturer of consumer products located in Los Angeles, CA.
The successful candidate for the Assistant Controller position will take on a leadership role in all Accounting functions of the Company. This leader will coordinate all aspects of the accounting reporting cycle including GAAP compliance, monthly management reporting, regular Board reports, corporate governance, and integration of field financial reports. The Assistant Controller will oversee a team of six direct reports, including accounting, payroll, A/R and A/P.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare reports which summarize and forecast company business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and expected operations.
- Direct preparation of budgets, reviews budget proposals, and prepares necessary supporting documentation and justification.
- Recommend modifications to existing corporate programs.
- Working with Corporate Financial Management (including the CFO, Corporate Controller, etc) as key liaison for all divisional related corporate financial requirements including among other items, quarter/year-end closing, markdown evaluations, etc.
- Provide management with timely reviews of the organization’s financial status and progress in its various programs and activities.
- Direct determination of depreciation rates to apply to capital assets.
- Advise management on desirable operational adjustments due to tax code revisions.
- Arrange for audits of the Company’s accounts.
- Prepare reports required by regulatory agencies.
- Establish relations with banks and other financial institutions.
Skills & Experience Required
The ideal candidate would have over seven years of progressive accounting experience in a manufacturing cost environment. They must have significant proven success leading an accounting team at the Assistant Controller level, ideally supported by initial career experience with a national accounting firm. Candidates must also bring a proven ability to guide and influence through both formal and informal leadership. Specifically, the candidate will need:
- Successful experience in a consumer products manufacturing company
- Proven ability to quickly assess the status of the accounting department, the financial and statistical analysis reporting function, and the internal control environment with a view towards improving the effectiveness and relevance of the department.
- Strong accounting leadership and analytical skills; ability to solve problems; solid organizational and communication skills.
- ERP experience, including ability to develop appropriate reports and implement modules, and all associated and tangential systems skills.
- Ability to effectively provide leadership, training, and development to the accounting professionals, as well as others within the organization to better respond to the needs of the business.
- Possess a can-do attitude and proven team-leadership skills.
Education
- Bachelor Degree in Accounting or Finance, or in related field required.
