Accounting Manager

This is a Full-time position in Denver, CO posted December 4, 2021.

POSITION: Accounting Manager

LOCATION: Administration Building – Business Services

PAYRANGE: EO-8 ($80,570 – $116,950)

WORK YEAR: 260 Days

REPORTS TO: Chief Financial Officer

SUMMARY

Responsible for the oversite of financial operations and fund accounts of the Business Services Department, and all district capital projects. Provides variance and project analysis, financial reporting, recommends cost saving initiatives, and analyzes financial processes to suggest efficiencies. Advises the CFO on safeguarding of assets including management and oversight of all cash management activities and internally auditing processes and controls. Prepares governmental and government-wide financial statements and conversions. Maintains continuing compliance with former, current, and upcoming GASB requirements, as well as analyzing financial transparency data provided to CDE.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties maybe assigned.

  • Analyze, interpret, review, and summarize financial data and prepare related spreadsheets, reports, and analysis. Prepare forecasts and supporting documents for the CFO, Superintendent, and Board of Education. This reporting will include all funds, including but not limited to General fund, Bond funds, Capital funds.
  • Recommend, plan, and implement changes to accounting process and procedures. Proposals will align with GAAP, Board of Education Policy, and GASB requirements.
  • Work with the Grants Manager to prepare for the annual independent audit. This would include preparing requested information, reports, attend meetings as needed.
  • Serve as the coordinator for the annual CAFR, prepare the fund statements to provide to the auditing firm, prepare the government wide statements with the assistance of the auditing firm. Assist with the footnotes required in the statements with the assistance of the auditing firm.
  • Oversee month end closing to include all items included in the month end checklist established by the district.
  • Oversee the capitalization and the maintenance of fixed asset data. Report capital expenditures, bond tracking, and capital project progress against budget.
  • Assist with the development of the annual district budget.
  • Coordinate the settling of district mill levies for submission to the county. Record monthly County Treasurer reports. Calculate year-end deferred revenue and receivable related to the general fund and bond funds.
  • Complete monthly and annual reporting for participation in the state of CO interest-free loan program
  • Supervision of Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable activities including inter-fund loans.

EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field required
  • Master’s degree or CPA preferred.
  • At least 7 years of progressively advanced accounting with at least 4 years in financial analysis and trend forecasting.
  • Mastery of Excel and Access functions including use of logic formulas.
  • Experience with Infinite Visions financial software strongly preferred.
  • At least 2 years’ experience with GASB, GAAP, and governmental accounting preferred

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Criminal background check required for hire.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions, use time efficiently, demonstrate attention to detail, follow instructions, and respond to management direction.
  • Ability to work with students with diverse backgrounds and abilities.
  • Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies, Superintendent policies, and building and department procedures.
  • Ability to communicate, interact, and work effectively and cooperatively with all people including those from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds.
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE:

  • Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers, peripherals, and office software.
  • Advanced operating knowledge of and skill with Microsoft Excel, Access, and Sharepoint.
  • Operating knowledge of Infinite Visions computer software preferred.
  • Operating knowledge of and experience with typical office equipment, such as telephones, copier, fax machine, E-mail, etc.

SUPERVISION/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITY:

This position supervises 2 Accounting Specialists. This position will also work closely with school and district administration.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

MENTAL FUNCTIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to analyze, communicate, compute, and use interpersonal skills. Frequently required to compare, copy, coordinate, synthesize, evaluate, and compile. Occasionally required to instruct and negotiate.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Twelve (12) month position (260 Days).
  • Eight (8) hours per day.
