JOB SUMMARY
Under limited supervision, provides advanced accounting duties related to budget preparation and analysis, job cost accounting, fixed assets and depreciation, audit preparation, account reconciliation, deferred revenue sharing, allocation funding, and financial reporting in an accurate and timely manner.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
Updates, reviews, reconciles and manages various accounts, balance sheets, general ledgers, statements, and spreadsheets.
Processes required journal entries and fund distributions.
Reviews expenses for capital purchases and posts depreciation.
Analyzes, forecasts, and tracks financial budget accounts.
Conducts variance analysis of accounts.
Prepares various monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
Reviews coding accuracy for assigned accounts.
Identifies and reconciles account discrepancies.
Develops database applications to improve departmental computer software systems.
Conducts audit preparation.
Complies with the regulatory standards and policies and procedures of accounting.
In addition to divisional accounting responsibilities, performs representative duties for related organizations.
Performs duties for all divisional grant programs and project.
Produces and processes invoices and receivables for divisional programs.
Conducts audit preparation.
Complies with the regulatory standards and policies and procedures of accounting.
Attends meetings as required to perform staff duties.
Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Required Skills
Relevant Knowledge and Skills
* Knowledge of applicable computer system software programs.
* Knowledge of general ledger and journal entries, account reconciliation, account payables and account receivables.
* Knowledge of financial budget account analysis, tracking, and reporting.
* Knowledge of job cost accounting, fixed assets and depreciation, audit preparation, deferred revenue sharing, and allocation funding.
* Knowledge of the regulatory requirements and policies and procedures of accounting.
* Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing various software including electronic spreadsheets and database applications.
* Skill in working independently, multitasking, prioritizing projects, and meeting deadlines.
* Skill in using analytical and research skills in performance of job duties.
* Skill in performing variance analysis of budgeted accounts.
* Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with others.
Required Experience
Accountant I:
MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION
* A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Systems or a related field, or progressively responsible professional work-related experience.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION
* Non-supervisory
– Zero (0) years of experience required; this is an entry-level professional position.
Accountant II:
MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION
* A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Systems or a related field, or progressively responsible professional work-related experience.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION
* Non-Supervisory – Two (2) years of applicable professional experience.A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.
Progressively responsible professional/exempt work experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for college education.
Accountant III:
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION
* A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Systems or a related field, or progressively responsible professional work-related experience.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION
* Non-Supervisory – Five (5) years of applicable professional experience.
Accountant IV:
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION
* A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Systems or a related field, or progressively responsible professional work-related experience.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION
* Non-Supervisory – Eight (8) years of applicable professional experience.
All Accountant Level Positions:
PREFERRED EDUCATION QUALIFICATION
* A Master’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science Information Systems or a related field.
PREFERRED CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION
* Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is preferred.
MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
* The following demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
This position requires persistent repetitive movements of the hands, wrists and fingers and the ability to sit for long periods of time.
Must be able to lift approximately 15 pounds.
