Mathematica is seeking an Accountant to assist with the accounting and financial reporting for the company.
As a government contractor, we are seeking an individual who is knowledgeable of not only GAAP but also FAR and CAS regulations.
Responsibilities
include a variety of accounting related tasks involving account analysis, journal entries, process improvements and reporting, including financial statements and account reconciliations.

• Maintains the accelerated monthly close schedule in a timely manner
• Assists in preparing monthly organizational financial statements and performance reports; works closely with auditors
• Monitors the financial statements against the budget, explaining variances and assists with updating monthly forecasts
• Prepares general ledger account reconciliation and analysis and resolves discrepancies monthly, quarterly, annually.
• Creates, reviews, and posts journal entries; saves appropriate backup for auditors
• Seeks automation for reporting, account reconciliations, and journal entries.
• Monthly trial balance review, interpret and present the analysis of general ledger accounts and discuss results at monthly meetings to management.
• Preparation of accruals and amortization of prepaid expenses; seeks to automate
• Presents financial results and analysis to management.
Acts as a business partner to operations and administration.
• Oversees outsources tax filings for state and local business taxes; works closely with tax accountants to provide tax schedules and reconciliations needed.
• Assists with analysis and maintenance of indirect cost pools.
• Record and provide analysis of intercompany transactions including our international subsidiary.
• Preparation of audit supporting documents and schedules; interaction with external audit teams both CPA firms and government agencies.
• Assist project teams with financial analysis on staffing and cost structures.
• Responds to inquiries and questions from staff and management
• Provide guidance and assistance to interns
• Additional duties may be assigned as needed and providing ad-hoc reports to management

Qualifications
• A BA/BS degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
• 2-5 years of accounting/finance experience
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel (including pivot tables and V-lookups, X-lookups), Outlook, PowerPoint; ability to illustrate important points through graphs
• Knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS)
• Experience working with government contractors highly preferred
• Strong Preference for understanding Deltek Costpoint modules
• Understanding Earned Value Management and project planning
• Experience business proposals, or other comparable experience
• A combination of equivalent education and work experience may be substituted for the above requirements.

This position offers an anticipated annual base salary of $55,000
– $85,000.
Various federal agencies with whom we contract require that staff successfully undergo a background investigation or security clearance as a condition of working on a project.
If you are assigned to such a project, you will be required to obtain the requisite security clearance.
