Job Summary :

The Department of Health Policy administrative team has an opening for a dynamic and experienced Sr.

Financial Analyst.

As the Sr.

Financial Analyst, you independently develop, analyze, and conduct complex financial analyses to assess the viability of strategic and financial plans and programs.

This position also performs post-award financial responsibilities; monitors, plans, develops and coordinates financial analyses and reports; and conducts special projects as needed.

The ideal candidate has excellent accounting skills, is able to decipher financial situations with ease, has experience managing a variety of funding mechanisms including multiple complex grants, demonstrates extraordinary attention to detail, has strong analytical skills and problem-solving skills, can successfully manage multiple projects and deadlines in a helpful and courteous manner, is extremely organized and efficient, and works well both independently and as a team player.

Vanderbilt University’s new Department of Health Policy brings together a broad group of health policy scholars devoted to developing health policy solutions that can have a profound impact.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Post-award financial responsibilities from initiation to close-out of contracts and grants, including creating cost centers, completing 1275 budget forms, general ledger reconciliation, invoicing, encumbrance management and interfacing with sponsors and subcontractors
Review and approve of financial transactions
Analyze financial transactions, budget impacts, budget variances and regulations in support of implemented programs/projects and provides input for financial projections and center deficits
Prepare financial, statistical, and operational reports
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for long range financial projections of current and planned programs/projects that have financial impact or implications on the department
Create unique and often complex reports, make projections and recommendations using historical data and existing or established VUMC databases and financial applications
Partner with Chief Business Officer to resolve and communicate budgetary issues
Develop communications for distribution to senior leadership (i.e., Department Chair, Chief Business Officer, Director of Operations, Principal Investigators) regarding financial position, cash flows, accounts, budgets, budget requests and related financial matters.
Serves as a resource on matters related to budgets and financial reports
Supervise budget accounting analyst
Other responsibilities as assigned

Minimum Qualifications :

Required:
Bachelor’s degree
Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience
Robust experience with accounting and financial responsibilities
Strong desire to work with numbers, spreadsheets, contracts and grants
High attention to detail
Excellent trouble-shooting skills
Strong initiative: must be a self-starter who can work with minimum supervision
Critical thinking abilities
Strong customer service skills and works well within a team
Preferred experience and skills:
Vanderbilt Medical Center or University experience
VPRAD training
Familiarity with post and pre-award administration
Professional work style with high level problem-solving skills
Produces high quality, error-free work
Works well with a range of leadership styles
